Norma Bell Moore, 81, died at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro on March 18, 2012. She was born December 29, 1930 in Irving, Texas to William Ralph Bell and Marie Lindenblatt Bell. She graduated from Irving High School in Irving, Texas and Abeline Christian College, in Abeline, Texas where she received a bachelor’s degree in fine art. After graduating from college, she taught high school in Houston, Texas, where she met William Dudley Moore, Sr., whom she married on August 19, 1955. They enjoyed 56 happy years together.
Norma and Dudley moved to the High Point area in 1960, where she became a full-time homemaker. Norma’s first love and dedication were to her family; however, she was also involved in several organizations. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, The Hospital Guild, the High Point Literary League, the Jamestown Garden Club and the Willow Aires Dance Club. She enjoyed cooking, reading, bridge, golf and travel, including numerous ski trips with her family (she was a famously poor, but game skier). Norma and Dudley enjoyed a long and active association with the ABCD (American, British, Canadian and Dutch) golf organization, with whom they played competitive golf all over the world, making many lifelong friends.
She is survived by her husband; a son and two daughters, William Dudley Moore, Jr. and wife Mary-Lynn, Carolyn Moore Shaw and husband Don, all of High Point, and Allison Moore Grimm and husband Steve of Greensboro; brother Winston Ralph Bell and wife Pam of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren, William Dudley Moore III and Elizabeth Kelley Moore of High Point, Alexandra Paige Grimm and Samantha Taylor Grimm of Greensboro, and Lucas Moore Shaw of High Point.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, with Reverend Richard Howle officiating. The burial will take place at Mount Lawn Cemetery in North Wilkesboro immediately following the service. The family will receive friends in the Asbury Room at the church from 6:00 until 8:00 on Monday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262 or to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
