

Bob was born on July 19, 1924 to Robert Thomas and Mary Alice Tate Cottam of High Point. He graduated from High Point High School in 1942 and completed his post-graduate education at Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, Tennessee. Bob went on to participate in the V-12 Navy College Training Program at Duke University. He was a Radarman in the United States Navy during WWII, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. King and the U.S.S. Sacramento. Moby was in the Navy for three years before being honorably discharged in 1946. After returning from the war, Bob spent a long and successful career in sales.
Moby was an avid gardener and loved spending time outdoors. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Bob was also a longtime active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he had many meaningful relationships. Moby was active with High Point Swim Club and the High Point Community Swim Association while his sons were growing up.
Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years, Winifred (Wink) Wall Cottam; sister, Alice Cottam Younts of Lake Norman; son Robert (Bob) Thomas Cottam, III and wife, Debbie; son, Richard (Dick) Shore Cottam and wife, Evie; son, William (Bill) Wilson Cottam and friend, Dr. Karen Joanson, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Mary Cottam Keever, Betsy Cottam, Katie Cottam, Caroline Cottam, Allie Trexler (husband, Charlie), Sarah Smith, and Lynwood Smith (wife, Allie); three great-granddaughters, Elly, Francy, and Barret; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 108 W Farriss Ave, High Point, NC, 27262, or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Visiting Angels, Westchester Manor, and Westchester Harbour for their outstanding care of Bob during his battle with Alzheimer’s.
