On Sunday, August 20, 2017, Shirley “Joann” McKeehan Shelton, completed her journey here on earth and was ushered into the presence of Jesus our Savior. Fully aware that she was an imperfect person (as we all are), she lived life praying and placing her trust in the One who is perfect. With each episode throughout her life where He provided assurance, comfort, protection and provision, her faith strengthened. “We Pray and trust God”. Born in Washington, D.C., she spent her early years with grandparents and other family members in Corbin, KY, as her mother had frequent and lengthy hospitalizations. Around age 9, her family moved to High Point where she lived the rest of her life. Twice in her youth, she battled polio that left its impact and scars. Mom lived a simple life as a housewife raising two rowdy boys. Later, for over 30 years, she worked as a daycare teacher taking care of toddlers. For her, it was never a job but her calling… her ministry…loving on and caring for each child entrusted to her. She retired in 2007 after 22 years with A Child’s World in High Point. Joann was preceded in death by her husband Everett Lee Shelton, son Craig Shelton, parents Elmer and Ruby McKeehan, and brother Paul McKeehan. She leaves a legacy of memories for son Rick Shelton (wife Jeanie), grandchildren Jarrod Dunbar (wife Nicole), Philip “Alex” Shelton, and Andrea Smith (husband Garrett) and great-grandchildren Kyleigh and Addeline. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. Online condolences may be made at davisfuneralsandcremations.com.
