OBITUARIO
Thomas Edward Roddy
14 septiembre , 1940 – 25 diciembre , 2020
Thomas Edward Roddy, 80, passed away on December 25, 2020. He was born on September 14, 1940 in Kernersville., NC to the late Claude Roddy, Sr. and Marybelle Caroon Roddy. Tommy, to those who knew him best, was loved by everyone he met. Always athletic, he loved to play sports, but most of all, he loved snow skiing and teaching others how to ski. He continued to ski into his 70’s. He was a Respiratory Therapist for 49 years. Soon after graduating from Inhalation Therapy school in Winston Salem in 1969, he was asked to help establish the first Inhalation Therapy Dept. at High Point Memorial Hospital. He headed that department until leaving in the early 1980’s to open High Point Medical Supply. After selling his business in the mid 90’s, he continued his Respiratory Therapy career until retiring in 2018. Tommy will be remembered most for his love for his girls (Amy and Sara), his generosity, contagious smile and silly sense of humor.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jane Russell Roddy; second wife, Jackie Duehning Roddy; Sisters, Jerry Roddy Blake and Bonnie Roddy Daniel; Brothers Buddy, Mike and Leslie. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Amy Meinecke (Terry) and Sara Smith (fiancé Eric Ashley); grandchildren, Kylor Meinecke and Caitlin Meinecke (Hope), Shelby James (Trevor) and Terry Crawford III; great grandchild, Ava James; sister-in-law, Carolyn Beeson Roddy; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Thomas’s name to Hospice of Greensboro and Crisis Control Ministries of Kernersville.
A celebration of life for Thomas will take place on Saturday, January 2, 2020 at 2:00pm at Sechrest Funeral Service of High Point; Pastor Mark Reed of Rosemont Baptist Church of Winston-Salem officiating. Family will receive friends after the conclusion of the service.

I loved Uncle Tommy so much. When I think of him, the first word that comes to mind is FUN. Uncle Tommy loved to have fun and loved to share his fun adventures with others. I’ll never forget those wonderful ski trips we took with him to Sugar Mountain. He actually taught me how to ski.
The second word that comes to mind to best describe Uncle Tommy is generous. He loved giving to and doing for others. Baking delicious desserts for others “just because”, even though he wasn’t a big dessert lover himself, was one of his many acts of kindness.
Uncle Tommy raised two wonderful daughters that I know he was so proud of. Amy and Sarah, he taught you girls well and I see so much of him in you. His legacy will live own through your beautiful giving and loving hearts. I’m so proud to call you my cousins.
I could fill pages of wonderful memories I have, but for now I’ll just say I’m sad Uncle Tommy isn’t here with us anymore. I take comfort in knowing he’s no longer in pain and is resting in the arms of his Savior.
You made a difference in my life and I will never forget you Uncle Tommy.
Much love,
your niece Heather Frost

Dear Tom,
How much fun it was to work with you on Nights the last 6 years of my career. Your sense of humor, of humility, and of honor were second to none. You enriched my life, as well as those around you at "The Regional". Marian & I will wait 'til 5:00, then offer a toast to a life well lived: MISTER Tom Roddy!

When I came to High Point as a specialist in Pulmonary Medicine in 1978, I worked closely with Tom in setting up the pulmonary function lab and managing the Respiratory Therapy Department at then HIgh Point Regional Hospital. He was a great guy to work with.

Tom reinforced certain principles of giving of yourself and your material possessions. Grateful to have known and worked with Mr. Tom Roddy. Shed this feeble body and raise in power.

I will always remember Tom from my ICU days at HPRH. I was a young gun nurse back then and he was always so kind and funny! I am so sorry for your loss, prayers lifted for peace, strength and comfort! Tom Roddy, you were definitely one of a kind! Rest in sweet peace!

Oh, Mr. Tom, you were just the best. Funny, loving, kind and always trying to find ways to make others feel appreciated. It is indeed fitting that you would earn your wings on Christmas day, given the fact that you found time to offer a sweet gift to each of us underneath that pitiful little RT tree in the department. Your appearances in the middle of the night to bring doughnuts and other fresh baked goodies, visiting when you'd had a little nip of something to drink, were always an opportunity to see the real Tom and the kindness he offered to many. Thanks for sharing your heart with many, Tom. You will be missed!

I was so sorry to hear about Tom. I am an RRT, teacher, and friend. I cannot remember a conference that I did not see Tom. He was always hanging out with the other Tom (Morris). These two were so much fun to be around. We would laugh and inevitably talk about my shoes. I am including this photo. I have so many fond memories. I send my prayers to you that he left behind but will meet again.

Of all the many people I have met through the NCSRC, Tom was one of my favorites ! He was a kind, caring man with a great sense of humor. He had a life long interest in Respiratory Care. I’m glad I got to see him at the last meeting of the NCSRC in September 2019. I will miss him. .
