Tom was born April 19, 1944 in Greensburg, PA, a son of the late Clarence Jacob Stokum and Hazel Alberta Mathias Stokum. He graduated from Jeannette Senior High School, Jeannette, PA where he was known as "Mr. Music Man", playing the trombone in marching band, dance band and orchestra. He was the only student who made the county, district and state band in a single year. Tom volunteered in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam era on a submarine. He then started working at Elliott Company, retiring after 32 years.
Tom and his wife then built a house on High Rock Lake in Lexington, NC. He loved golf, the Pittsburgh Steelers, crossword puzzles and working in the yard. Tom was a active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. His favorite things were helping others and tending to his sweet dog, Foxy. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Betty Jean DiNardo, Lois Stokum, Lillian Mae Tocco, Delores Melvira Couchenour, Ilene Bernice Anderson, Genevieve June Klingensmith and a brother, Clarence Jacob Stokum, Jr.
Surviving are his wife of almost 53 years, Roxanne Schidle Stokum; a sister, Charlotte Catherine Saint and two brothers, John Daniel Stokum and Paul Joseph Stokum; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Tom's life will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church by Pastor Tammy Talbert. The family will receive friends following the service until 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Macedonia UMC Building Fund, P. O. Box 190, Southmont, NC 27351 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. The family would like to thank the health care providers at Novant Thomasville Medical Center and the members of the Hinkle House Hospice Team for their loving care of Tom.
