

He was a salesman in the lumber business retiring in 1996.
Virgil was an overachieving, energetic, fun-loving devoted husband, family man, and an active Christian. He was extremely civic and charity minded, including being one of the founding members of the Martinsville Ducks Unlimited, and was a member of the Ruitans, Lions Club, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus as well as belonging to several golf & hunting clubs. In addition he was an extremely influential political activist.

He is survived by his loving wife Kay Schmidt; daughters Tania Carter and husband Frank, Margo Nichols and husband Mike, Staci Clement and husband Bobby; son Ben Schmidt and wife Betsy; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday July 31, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary, High Point, visitation will be at the church from 10:30-11:00 a.m.
