

Walter attended Western Technical Commercial School in Toronto, Canada which had an art department. After graduating, Walter’s father sent him to Stratford, Ontario to work in a furniture factory to get experience. While working at Stratford Chair Company he worked for a man who soon became his father-in-law. Walter married Vera Mae Knack on January 22, 1944.
World War II broke out and Walter and his wife, Vera, returned to Birmingham, Michigan. There Walter entered the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific as a radio technician. After the war ended he and his family returned home to Michigan and Walter, following in his father’s footsteps in furniture design, attended Klok Institute in Grand Rapids. Walter then accepted a design position with Owosso Furniture in Benton, Arkansas and later at the head office of Korhler Manufacturing Company in Naperville, Illinois and Kankakee, Illinois.
In 1971, Walter and Dudley Moore began Otto & Moore, Inc. Walter and his business partner trained many furniture designers, all of whom have gone out on their own and have been very successful.
Walter had a passion for the Lord, his family, and friends. He was an elder at The Church at High Point for over 40 years and loved attending worship. Walter was a true blessing to many people. He also served on the Board of Youth for Christ for two years. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, running, Nautilus, and fixing things.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Vera, whom he was married to for 68 years. He is survived by 2 children, Wayne Otto of Boone, NC and Betsy Otto of High Point, NC.
His family and friends will miss him so very much. He has his heavenly body now and has been reunited with loved ones! “Rejoice in the Lord Always.”
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, 1301 East Lexington Avenue, High Point, NC. Visitation with the family will be held in the Sechrest Room immediately following the memorial service.
