A lifelong resident of the Triad area, Conner, as he was known, was born August 12, 1951 to Robert W. and Elizabeth Hatcher Conner of High Point. His grandparents were Edgar A. and Pearl Sink Hatcher of High Point and Floyd and Helen Conner of Utica, NY. He graduated from High Point Central High School in 1969 and earned his BA and MBA degrees from UNC-G.
He was employed by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce for several years and then was self-employed as a computer consultant. Among other projects, he managed the 2002 creation of the North Carolina Health and Wellness Trust Fund Commission's website and grant application program (www.hwtfc.org). At the time of his death he was an account manager and trainer for Integritas, Inc., an electronic medical records software company.
Conner projected his enthusiasm into a variety of activities, organizations, and political campaigns. He conducted programs for The Hunger Project and Landmark, helped direct CROP Walk, and served as a construction site supervisor for Habitat for Humanity in Greensboro. He honored the WWII service of his father and other veterans with the www.seabees93.net website. A bicyclist who was known for his love of walking and the outdoors, Conner spent a memorable year hitch-hiking through Europe and he climbed the Grand Teton in 2006. His indoor passions included a Shakespeare-reading group, and he was an absolutely avid Duke basketball fan.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth H. Conner, of High Point, his sister Susan, of La Plata, Maryland, his sister and brother-in-law, Chris and Steve Levin of Philadelphia, his nephews, Dan, Sam and Matt Levin and his beloved Siamese cats.
