Berry Alan VanDike lived a life guided by love, resilience, and unwavering courage. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, he passed away on May 31, 2025, in Hartland, Michigan. Born on January 1, 1964, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Berry’s life was a testament to family, kindness, leadership, and strength.
Berry cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Julie VanDike, and a proud father to Krista (Josh) Fenelon and Danny (Joelyn) VanDike. He was a beloved grandfather to Liam Fenelon, Breanna (Bryce) Strehl, Wesley VanDike, Audrey Fenelon, Isiah Moen, and Riley VanDike. Berry was the cherished son of the late William C. and Patricia VanDike and son-in-law to the late William and Ann Renee Keppen. He was a caring brother to William (Margaret) VanDike, the late Bart VanDike, Robert (Linda) VanDike, Bryan VanDike, Bruce (Michael) VanDike, and Brad (Monica) VanDike, as well as a supportive brother-in-law to James (Katherine) Keppen.
A craftsman, outdoorsman, and mentor, Berry left a lasting legacy in every aspect of his life. He had a remarkable ability to uplift those around him with his positivity, wisdom, and strength. Berry faced every challenge with bravery, never backing down, and inspiring others with his determination. If there was a way to overcome an obstacle, Berry would find it.
He found joy and peace in the great outdoors, whether on the golf course, at youth sporting events (often as a coach), or in the woods during hunting season. Berry was passionate about his role as an official scorer with Commemorative Bucks of Michigan, a reflection of his deep connection to nature. When not in the field, he could often be found at the bowling alley, where he excelled as an accomplished bowler.
Berry Alan VanDike’s life is a shining example of a life well lived—filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections. As we say goodbye to this extraordinary man, we do so with grateful hearts for the memories he gave us and the lessons he taught us. His legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched and the example he set.
The VanDike family has been known to use the cherished saying: “May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you’re dead,” a heartfelt wish for a life well-lived and a peaceful journey beyond. Berry has now reunited with the love of his life, Julie, his father, William, his father-in-law, William, brother, Bart, and Niece Lauren—while the devil remains blissfully unaware of his passing.
