

Loving husband of Rhonda for 24 years. Proud father of Merick and Mariah. Son of Edna and the late Merle Shaver. Son-in-law of Bennie Pawley (Darlene Gregory) and late Patricia Pawley. Brother of Marti Johnson, Sonja Copeman (Joseph Mindelli), Heather (David) Dellowe, and Jeramie (Eryn) Shaver. Brother-in-law of Sheri (Jeff) Emery, Lisa (Scott) McWhinnie and Steve (Theresa) Pawley. Treasured uncle of Patrick (Lindsay) Copeman, Ashley (Michael) Palmateer, Shayla (Seth Schleben) Padilla, Alyssa (Terry) Stein, Alexis Shaver, Logan Shaver, London Shaver, Athens Shaver, Chris Emery, Jessica (Kyle) Gorncy, Phillippe (Brooke) Landry, Ben (Kasey McDonald) Landry, Kayleigh (Dan) Wood, Ryan (Kelly) McWhinnie, Ian McWhinnie, Fallon (Emmet) Phillips, Danica Pawley (Drew Cook). Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Norma (John) Williams and Maurice (Mary) Shaver.
Mitch graduated from Waterford Kettering High School and received his Bachelor's Degree and Master’s Degrees from Oakland University. He was a physical therapist and later worked for Basements Plus. During college, he volunteered as the assistant wrestling coach at Waterford Kettering High School where he impacted the lives of several students. He enjoyed golf, birds, hunting, sports, and the outdoors. He was a dedicated Detroit and Michigan State University sports fan.
While fighting his own battle with ALS, Mitch remained a positive advocate to others struggling with ALS. Among his many achievements, he was the Founder and President of the Mitchell Leland Shaver Foundation. He received the 2024 Spirit Award from his Alma Mater. Oakland University continues to honor his legacy with the Mitchell Shaver Scholarship Endowment for Physical Therapy.
Mitch will be remembered to many as a compassionate hero. His kind heart and loving personality were contagious. Mitch was everyone’s cheerleader and will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Woodside Bible Church, 9000 Highland Road in White Lake.
