

Sharon Lezette Watkins, affectionately known as "Queenie" by those who knew her best, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at the age of 84 in Commerce Township, Michigan. Born on November 22, 1941, in Lynch, Kentucky, Sharon was a beacon of light and warmth to all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.
Sharon dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and proudly served as a registered nurse for over 60 years, most notably at West Hickory Haven Nursing Center, where she specialized in long-term care. Her compassion, intelligence, and friendly demeanor made her not just an exceptional nurse but also a cherished colleague.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sharon's life was marked by her roles as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Tina) Watkins, Craig (Angela) Watkins, and Kelly (Charles) Waryas. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brittany (Ben) Kirkwood, Bradley (Beth) Watkins, Brianna Watkins, Jared Watkins, Bailey Watkins, Jason (Meghan) Waryas, Juston Waryas, and Joseph Waryas, as well as her great-grandchildren, Emerson Waryas, Ashton Waryas, Riley Kirkwood, Jackson Kirkwood, Madison Kirkwood, Reagan Kirkwood, Lucas Henderson, and Wyatt Henderson. Her family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them her values of love, kindness, and generosity.
Sharon's zest for life extended to her many interests and hobbies. An avid gardener, she found solace and joy in nurturing her vegetables and flowers. Her travels to Mexico with her cousin, the late Nina Spalding, were adventures that brought her immense happiness and lifelong memories. Sharon's spirit of service was evident in her volunteering at the Highland Community Center, where she made a significant impact on her community.
Known for her frugality and knack for finding treasures, Sharon was the "Garage Sale Grandma" who could spot a bargain from a mile away. Her shopping escapades at the Salvation Army were legendary, and her crafting skills were a testament to her creativity and resourcefulness. Sharon's social nature meant that she was often surrounded by family and friends, with whom she loved to spend her time.
Sharon Lezette Watkins lived a life marked by love, friendship, and intelligence. Her presence was a gift to those around her, and her absence will be deeply felt. Yet, her spirit lives on through the countless lives she touched, the family she adored, and the community she helped build. Sharon's journey through life was one of purpose, care, and joy, and she will be remembered as a woman who truly made a difference. Her story is one of a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Sharon’s family will receive friends on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM to share memories at the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, located at 3295 East Highland Road, Highland, Michigan 48356.
