Tommy, I always looked forward to seeing you show up at the cottage. We would sit on top of the boat house or on the flat rock and go fishing all day. I Remember you being the first one to drop a line into the crack in the boat House floor and to my amazement you pulled up a rock bass. That crack in the boat house was always the first place I dropped my line every day after that.
When the boat house was to old for us to climb on I remember uncle Fred tying a rope to it and we all pulled it down. We  cheered so loud that I think people a mile away could hear us.
 I always had fun when you where there if not fishing then catching  tadpoles in the creek or seeing who could find the flattest rock and skip it the most. 
You are missed very much.

We miss you Tom.  You were truly a friend.  It seams unusual that the loss of someone that you never met, that you only played Halo with could positively effect you so.  
It only goes to show the integrity of your character and the friendly and cheerful disposition you had.  We truly miss you and pray that we will all meet again in the hereafter.

Eulogy from Tom's Funeral:

 How do I say goodbye to a brother that I loved as much as you?   I still cannot believe you are gone – I'm still hoping it isn't true.  Wishing this heartache was just a dream, from which I'd wake up and find you here, still in life, with all of us.  You meant so much to your family and friends, and God called you too young, at only 38, but I know you are in a better place, and you are with him in Heaven. 

 I'd like to share with you some thoughts and memories of Tom, or as we liked to call him, Tommy. 
 
 I remember when we were about 3 and 5 and, as most kids, can't wait for Christmas morning, so we got up really early (I'm sure I got you up as we know you weren't a morning person), snuck downstairs and opened all (and I mean ALL) the Christmas presents under the tree.  We had no idea who they were for, as we couldn't read, so opened everything.  The wrapping paper was flying everywhere.  My mom and dad were laying upstairs in their bed, and from what I understand, my mom said, “Fred, did you hear something?  I think they kids are up and opening their presents”, boy what a shock that must have been when they came downstairs.   The 3 of us were always very sneaky at Christmas time, and we will keep the rest of our Christmas memories our little secret.

 I used to sneak into your room after mom or dad put us to bed, we'd stay up playing cards or some other game on your top bunk until we heard them getting ready to come to bed, at which point, I'd high-tail it back to my room and we'd both pretend like we were sleeping.  Later, as I got older, this ‘tradition‘ was passed on to Sue, and the two carried it on.  We had some great times, many a night doing this.  Which may be why you were always so competitive at games, and loved them so much.  Oh, by the way, Dad doesn't cheat at cards, he just gets really lucky!

 The 3 of us would listen to music and rock out to our boom-boxes and walkman's – of course they weren't Sony walkman's, but we still thought they were cool.

 You were always good with computers, as well as designing and figuring things out.  I think the first thing you conquered, if you want to call it that, was the Rubik's cube.  You couldn't get it finished, and were determined to, so you took off all the stickers and finished it by putting the stickers back where they belonged.  And Atari, oh the hours we spent playing pac-man, frogger, space invaders….that's were you first got your love of video games.  I remember mom hollering at us (probably night after night) to come up for dinner, and threatening to take away the video games (kind of like Sue and I do with our kids today)….but Atari wasn't like the video games of today, there was no pause, you couldn't save, so we always wanted to finish our turn.  Seriously though, you had a great imagination, and that's why you made such a wonderful impact at Detroit Diesel.  You loved your job, and ALL the people you worked with. We were all so proud of your accomplishments there. 

 I remember all the camping trips, long talks, learning to change a tire together (as that was one of Dad's requirements for us to be able to get our drivers license)…actually, I think he just kept coming up with requirements, as he didn't want us to drive by ourselves.   We spent many a weekend on Lake Erie Swimming, boating, skiing and fishing.  We had a wonderful childhood!  

 As an adult, you loved Halo (I really don't know what Halo is, but I'm sure it has nothing to do with Angels), Bonfires, Fireworks, Backyard BBQ's, Paintball, Guinness, Red Wine, Good Food, Snowboarding, Wakeboarding, Laughter, Hanging out with your Friends and overall, just having a good time.  We have been thru a lot together as a family, which I think is why we all are so close.  

        You were always calm (well, most of the time), light-hearted, there for any of us to do anything that was asked of you – you never second guessed it, you always said yes.  You were a devoted brother, friend, and uncle.  Your nieces and nephews love you to death, and will miss all the piggy back rides, hanging them upside down and swinging them back-and-forth with your hands (this was one of the benefits of being tall), but it completely freaked me out.  

        You were, and always will be, a wonderful son, brother, Uncle and friend.  For I don't know how to do it, how to say goodbye to a brother like you.  There's almost no one who's shared as much of my life and who knows me as well as you.  I am willing to wager that many of you feel your life has been diminished by Tom's passing; on the contrary, it has been enriched by the privilege of having known him, whether it was only for a short time or a life time.  

        I know I speak for many people that knew you, that we have the good fortune to know, that when time calls for it, we can open a capsule of memories, and each share a laugh with Tom as though he were sitting across from us.  

        God Bless You Tom, I Love You, and I speak for all your family and friends – we will miss you, all the good times you brought into our lives, and it was an honor to have known such a great guy.  You will never be forgotten, and forever missed.

My heart and prayers go out to the family of the best gamer friend I've ever had.  I am deeply saddened by this news.  Tom was an especially close part of my gaming family.  I will miss him and remember him forever.

To all of Tom's family and freinds I wish to express my deepest  sympathies for your loss. Tom was a Halo gamer friend of mine and even though I never met him in person, I considered him a great friend. Loserguy,Jportillo,Puckhog and I (Tenthobiwan) played for hours on end for years and when I found out what happened to Tom I was devastated.
Tom will always have a place in my heart and I will never forget him. He was the kindest person and some day I hope to meet him in Heaven.

One of Tom's colleagues at Detroit Diesel found this picture recently and shared it with us.  It was taken at an Engineering group picnic a few years ago.  We all continue to miss Tom, especially considering that there are plenty of reminders of him that we encounter during the course of a work day.  Whether it's his empty desk, or one of the many "Duzzie" work folders on our network, they all prompt a moment of sadness or reflection when seen.  We hope his family is coping with his loss, and gaining strength.  From our standpoint, we're trying, but it ain't easy.

May God be with you all during your time of grief and loss - Tom or I should say TooBigT72 was a wonderful guy and a very close & special friend from Xbox but was like family to many of us that played with him over the years!  He will be truly missed and continued to be in our hearts and thoughts.  One day I hope to see him again in heaven!  Tom's name and memories will live on in our hearts :) I will continue to miss you Tom - Kay/LoserGuy

I am sorry I wasn't there for you more.  I love you so much and am so lost without you.  Thank you for being such a wonderful brother and always being there for me.

There are no words to fully and truly convey our deepest sympathy for your loss.  Your love and devotion to Christ hopefully will provide you the strength, courage, and love to allow you to bear this burden.

tom was like a older brother to me,he was one of the people that brought my wife (Kim) into my world. he was my best friend and my best man.he will be deeply missed. i cant put words to how i feel.

The best words are not words - they are memorable moments tied together with conversation & meaningful times, the best things in life are not things, the best people in life are those you hold tight to your heart. You are always a part of us Duzzie. Miss you buddy.

I worked with Tom for several years and I know he will be truly missed by all who knew him.

My spirit is still bruised over the passing of Tom.  Tom and I started at Detroit Diesel around the same time.  He was passionate about design.  His world class work inspired me to keep my own skills sharp.  Tom was often smiling and laughing.  He enjoyed life.

Tom's family is in my prayers during this time.  Tom will be long remembered and sorely missed by me.

Thank you Uncle Tommy for always being there for us.  For all the piggy back rides, teaching us to play video games, for lighting the fireworks on the 4th of July, making bonfires and tonka toasters. We have all been shocked and saddened by the bad news that Tom passed away. We will remember him as a very reliable and helpful colleague, but more than that as a very good friend which leaves a big gap in our community.

When I went to America the first time in my life, at this time, all was new and strange to me. Tom was so kind and caring during these days, supporting me in work and life. I remember as he said to me: "Peter, if you ever visit America again and need a place to stay, you will always have a home at my place."

I'm so saddened by the news of Tom's passing that I can't properly convey to you at this time, how utterly devastated we are and how completely he will be missed be me and his other colleagues at Detroit Diesel/Daimler.  Tom worked with people all over the world, and as each of them learns of his death they express shock and dismay without exception.  Tom was very well known and respected among his peers, and the outpouring of grief I've seen over the last few days confirms that. When the news was delivered Monday morning, there was not a dry eye in the room.  I'll write more when I have a chance to collect my thoughts about Tom. I'm sure there will be many memories that surface later that I will want to share. For now, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I have attached a picture of our work group taken 2 summers ago. The young man 3rd from the left was finishing up his internship that day and was heading back to Stuttgart, so we all posed for the picture. As it happens, this is the last shot we have of the whole group.

We are Tom's next door neighbor's and so sad and shocked to hear the news of the loss  your family has had to endure Tom was one of the kindest human beings  we have ever had the privlige to  know please take comfort in knowing he is now with our heavenly father in the most glorious place  ever and know that your in our prayers.

I was so shocked and sad to learn today of your loss. I truly am sorry. While it has been years since I have seen him, looking at the old childhood pictures of "Tommy" brought happy  memories flooding back.  I know you are in pain now, but you will always have the beautiful memories. I am thinking about you and praying for your healing.

Tom was a compassionate, caring & humble person. I was fortunate to share some great times with him. Even though we lost touch through the years, he has always and will always remain in my heart. He's a great example of a true friend. He was supportive and kind, and always made time for his friends. I am forever grateful for knowing him and having him in my life - He will be missed. His family and close friends are all in my thoughts and prayers.

We were so shocked and saddened to  find out that our neighbor, Tom had passed. He was a great neighbor.  With our work schedules we didn't see that much of each other, but had time for a few conversations.  Now wish we'd have taken the time to know him better.  His friendly smile and wave will truly be missed!  Our deepest sympathies to Tom's family and friends.

I was blessed to have Tom as my brother.  He was always there for me, unconditionally.  He loved playing games and doing activities of all types and my heart will ache this loss forever.
