Mary McGill Vroom

Mary graduated from Oak Ridge High School.  Following graduation, she went to work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where she met her husband of 67 years, Dennis Vroom.  While living in Oak Ridge she had her two sons, Dennis and James.

After living in Florida for several years where Mary was active in the PTA and the Junior Women’s Club, the family moved to Chattanooga and Mary earned an associate’s degree from Chattanooga State and worked at Provident Life and Accident.  Following retirement, she served on the boards of Northside Neighborhood House and her homeowner’s association and volunteered as a docent at the Tennessee Aquarium.  She was an early member of the Who’s New Club.  She was a longtime member of Hixson United Methodist Church and the Sammy Gooden Class.  She enjoyed many years of playing bridge with several groups of friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis. 

Survivors include her sons, Dennis (Donna) and James (Kim); grandson, Dennis Carl Vroom; granddaughter, Carolyn Marie Vroom; sister, Jeanne Marshburn; brother-in-law, Dr. Fred Q. Vroom and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors 1:00pm – 3:00pm on Wednesday October 8, 2025. The memorial service will follow in the chapel with a Pastor from Hixson United Methodist Church officiating.
