Arkie June Hoekje, age 93, went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 19. Arkie was a devoted sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend to many that knew her. She had a gentle and calming servants heart and loved being with her family whenever the opportunity came along.
Whether it was staying at home in her early years taking care of her mother, teaching young girls in the local 4H how to sew and knit, wrapping up medical supplies with her mom at the local hospital, or working at Mulder Funeral home for over 30 years by answering phones, setting up rooms for funerals, cleaning, working the door, or just lending a listening ear to those mourning at the time of the loss of their loved one; her patient and quite nature helped many without asking for anything in return, or any recognition for what she did.
Some of her favorite things were breakfast with family or friends during the week, taking yearly bus trips with friends to “surprise locations”, or the ability to knit a special blanket for someone in the family. You could always count on yarn and needles sitting near her chair with a story of who and what the next project was for.
Arkie was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Gerard and Elaine Schreur.
Arkie is survived by nieces and nephews Ken and Mary Schreur, Bob and Rhonda Schreur, Merle and Dawn Schreur, Curt & Lisa Schreur. Brother-in law and sister Gary and Greta Zuverink, nieces and nephews Steve and Lisa Walters, Duane and Melissa Zuverink, Jeff & Karen Heyboer, Jeff & Carrie Beyer. Brother-in-law and sister Gord and Henkie Beukema, nieces and nephews Brain & Becky Beukema, Mike & Tammy Beukema, Steve & Hyunjoo Beukema. Along with many great nieces and nephews who loved her too.
