

Brigitte was born 9/25/1937 in Berlin, Germany to Otto and Elfriede Schnall. As a very young girl Brigitte survived the Allied bombing raids of WWII along with her brothers Herbert, Manfreid and Gunter, and her sister Ellie. Brigitte became an accomplished seamstress and made custom designer housecoats. She met Louis (Lou) Schulist in Berlin in 1956 while Louis was stationed with Service Company, Special Troops, US Army Garrison, Berlin. They married in Berlin on December 6, 1958. They departed to Muskegon, Michigan in March of 1959 where Brigitte began her life as a housewife and mother.
Brigitte was known as a tireless and fastidious homemaker. She was an excellent cook and a talented artist creating many items including beautifully detailed ceramic pieces.
Brigitte and Lou have four children, Jack (Sally), Martin (Lisa), Dierdre (Wayne) Miedema, and Michael (Cindy). They have six grandchildren, Anthony Schulist, Christopher Schulist, Rachele Schulist, Kodi Schulist, Nicholas Bareman, and Michael Bareman. Also three great grandchildren Miles, Kennedy, and Everest. Brigitte married into a large and active family and shared many warm experiences with sisters and brothers-in-law.
The family traveled, fished, hunted, and celebrated many happy family gatherings over the years. Brigitte and Lou spent many relaxing retirement winters at their home in “The Springs” in Green Valley, Arizona where they met and enjoyed many friends and acquaintances.
Brigitte was preceded in death by all of her Berlin family members and by her parents-in-law Felix and Regina (Jean) Schulist.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Parish, 480 152nd Ave. in Holland with Fr. Peter Omogo and Fr. Michael Cilibraise officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Brigitte’s memory to Hospice of Holland or Corpus Christi Catholic School of Holland.
