Don served his community as a volunteer firefighter with Grand Haven and Holland Townships and was a member of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department for over 27 years. Don enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, picking Morel mushrooms, taking his dog for rides and spending time on his boat with his wife Keli. When not outdoors he loved being around friends and cooking chicken barbeques for weddings and golf leagues. His proudest achievements were his once in a lifetime Michigan elk, Utah mountain lion, and new granddaughter.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Jennie Van Liere, and siblings Carol Van Liere, Mary (John) Bos, and Roger VanLiere.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Keli (Zeedyk) Van Liere;
Daughters Casie Van Liere, and Jamie (Mike) Day;
Granddaughter Lyla Day;
Sister Dorothy (Bruce) Bazan;
Many extended family members and friends.
The family would like to thank the Holland Hospital ICU Team for taking such loving care of Don these past weeks.
