Dorothy Knibbe (Dirkje Kamper) passed on to her heavenly home on July 31, 2016, at 88 years old. Born on May 10, 1928 in The Netherlands, she graduated from nursing school in Rotterdam in 1949, married Dirk Frederick Knibbe in 1951, and immigrated to the US. They praised God in every step of this grand adventure and gratefully embraced their new country. She maintained often that it was with God’s help that they raised seven children to love the Lord. The loss of her husband Dirk, in 1988, left an enormous hole in her heart. She persevered and celebrated the births and adoptions of 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, and her grandson, Logan Knibbe. She is lovingly remembered by her children; Jeanne and John Arends, David and Sharon Knibbe, Martina and Thom Dykstra, Gerrit and Rena Knibbe, Marian and Robert Helmus, Deborah and Craig Brink, and Peter and Gayle Knibbe. And her brother Jacob Kamper and sister Anna Kamper, both living in The Netherlands.
The family wants to thank American Home and Hospice of Holland for the loving care they provided in the last months of her life. Visitation is Thursday August 4, from 6-8 p.m., with the funeral Friday at 11 a.m. at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James, Holland. Since Dorothy encouraged her children’s altruism, memorial contributions can be chosen from the following: Bethany Christian Services, Winning at Home, Evergreen Commons, ACMNP (National Parks Ministry), and Unity Christian High School.
