

Howie was born in Burnips, MI to Bert and Hattie Boersen on April 20, 1935. His family moved to Holland, MI when he was a young child. Howie’s greatest joys were his family, friends and his love and service of God. He will be fondly remembered for his willingness to help others, his love of sports, especially the Tigers. He also left a positive impact on everyone he met. Howie owned and operated Sales Friendly Service and Maplewood Auto Sales for many years. Later he joined American Manufactured Homes where he made sure new homeowners were happy and satisfied. Howie and his family were members of Maplewood Reformed Church where he served as a deacon. They later moved on to Fellowship Reformed and then Fourth Reformed. Howie and Darlene enjoyed taking vacations together. His greatest love was getting together with family for birthdays, holidays and special events.
He is survived by: his wife, Darlene (Kole Chrispell) Boersen, with whom he shared 64 blessed years; children, Bob (Jamie) Boersen, Karen (David) Fisher, Lori (Larry) Clark, and Sandy (Tom) Mathy; sister Lois Waterman; brother-in-law Jim Chrispell; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his sister, Arlene Volkers; brother Roger Boersen; and great-grandson Bryce Madsen.
Visitation will be 1-2 pm on Tuesday, May 17 at Fellowship Reformed Church, 2165 W Lakewood Blvd, Holland, MI 49424 with a Celebration of Life Service following. When arriving to the church, please park on the north side of the building and use door E. Flowers may be dropped off at the church that day.
