Joan Marie Schipper, 68, of Zeeland, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 31, 2024. Born in Grand Rapids on August 29, 1955 to mother Betty Green and father Ray Simmons, Joanie was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.
Joan graduated from Jenison High School and earned a degree in business from Davenport University. She was married to Karl Schipper for 25 years, until he passed unexpectedly on November 1, 2012.
Joan co-owned Lincoln Village Floral for many years where she was able to showcase her creative talents, while using her entrepreneurial skills. She spent the later years working in a job she really enjoyed, at Dr. Deenik’s dental practice in Holland.
Her love for hosting in Ludington was legendary. Nearly every weekend she and Karl entertained family or friends, creating unforgettable moments by the water and around fires. She valued her relationships and was always giving of her time and talents.
Joan's legacy of caring, humor, and unwavering support lives on through her brother Raymond (Sandi) Simmons; sisters Carol (Dan) Simmons-Hirth, and Cathy (Randy) Potter; children Matt (Jen) Holmes, Heather (Brad) Siegers, and Ross (Amanda) Schipper; and her cherished grandchildren Ava, Will, Clayton, Tanner, Iyla, Blake, Lena, Chandler, and Vivian, and survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Betty (Frank) Green, her father Ray Simmons, and her sister Sheryl.
Joan's life will be celebrated at Lakeshore Memorial Services in Holland, with visitation on February 5, 2024, from 5-7pm and a memorial service on February 6 at 11am, preceded by a short visitation at 10:30am. In honoring Joan's compassionate spirit, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Holland, who cared so well for her.
