Uncle Michael will be forever missed by those who cared about him. He was a kind man, and the world was better with him in it.

Uncle Mike,

I hope you know that you are a good man. I hope you found, and find now, worth and meaning in all that you did on this earth. In the legacy you leave, as a father of two successful children, as a beloved sibling, and, as in my case, a mentor and a goal and a friend. I hope you know I hold steadfast to the memories we have. To you teaching me how to drive stick. To taking Ezra to the dog park even when it was too cold for the three of us to enjoy it. To us changing my truck's oil and patching all the holes its rusted-out bed had to offer. And to your constant patience and incalculable kindness in letting me share your home for my final year of highschool. I wish I had told you what it all meant to me. I should have. I know I should have. But,  Uncle Mike, I pray you knew it. I hope and pray you know it.

Dear Little Brother,

You have left us far too early, but your legacy will remain long beyond your passing.  You have fulfilled your lifes mission, and I know that you have done so to the best of your ability.  Your life was seldom easy, and you embraced its challenges with grace. 

You leave us with the beautiful children that you so lovingly nurtured.  If they dont fully understand during this period of their grief that you were indeed the best dad that you could be, I promise that one day they will.   Looking back on my far too infrequent visits with you and the girls, I recall that your world lovingly revolved around them.  I recall speaking with you on your last birthday and that you were excited about your daughters upcoming wedding and particularly happy about gaining a wonderful son.  Who can argue that you did an excellent job of providing for your childrens needs!?  Anyone who is close to them today can appreciate the deep beauty that you helped create within and without.  Thank you for your children!

You leave us with the memory of having shared a life with you.  I am privileged to have been included in your life and in your passing.  Although you were much younger, you inspired me with your zest for life, your determination to succeed, and your steadfastness to do the right thing.  I am a better person for having known you.  Thank you for being my brother!

Your legacy is also so many other things big and small, important and silly, burned in our memories and yet to be remembered.  My tears are still fresh, but I promise that I shall always remember you with a smile.  Your life mattered to me.

You have earned the peace which you have now achieved.

Uncle Mike, I am truly honored that you have lived an impactful life overcoming your own hardships, to find love and to have the courage to express and share something so precious and vulnerable is admirable to say the least. Thank you for being an example of unconditional love in a world full of conditions.

Uncle Mike there will only ever be one. From day one we hit it off well birds of a feather family together. You inspired so many with the time you were given. Often we find light in are darkest hour and even in this hour it is what makes me stronger. I only wish we had one more minute of an hour of  a day. Knowing him has changed me for the better. MY FAMILY  I love you all one day soon enough we will join together the ultimate MERRILL extravaganza not a dry eye in the house and not an arm not embraced.

I have so many great memories of Mike from a pretty young age all the way to adulthood.  He was a great friend and loved by everyone who met him.  His loss has been really painful for my brother and I.  We thought of Mike as being a member of our family.  When my father died, Mike stepped up for me in a way that nobody else would or could, even though we hadn't hung out for years with me living on the West Coast.  I could write a book about all the fun, funny and memorable experiences we had with Mike while growing up.  We love you MIM and will miss you so much.

Mike and I grew up so inseparably that I can't think of a moment of my childhood when he wasn't present.  He was my brother, my guide, and has been and always will be the person I consider my best friend.  I will carry him in my heart always.  I will sit down over the next couple weeks and share some of my memories of Mike as they come flooding back to me.  I'll share those with Nancy in case anyone would like them.  Love you, Mike!

More times than none, living, surviving, from day to day, Someone throws us an unexpected curve ball n bro Michael, yes u did. Not without love, not in judgment. The impact of this is insurmountable n difficult to behold or grasp. Though, we tried, seeminglee not enough, here we are. You touched n impacted lives beyond speaking,now, when n where.  As we pray for your peace of spirit, don't leave us out.i believe that many would welcome a word, a whisper n/kiss from u. Ur work n purpose may not be over
 Take a rest, repurpose ur spirit n energy.

I will always be proud to be the daughter of Mike. His life was marked with hardship, and he sacrificed much to be there for me and my sister. I know he has found rest and peace at last, and for that I am thankful. I love you dad, and I miss you so much.

I am so proud of you on so many levels and am so happy that we shared our lives together. I will think of you often and miss you dearly, but will go on to celebrate your life. I will always love you.

Michael, you will be missed by all.  Your life had value and you are loved.  Our hearts are filled with sadness and emptiness.  You are beautiful.

Words can't describe the impact that Mike had on my life. He was my stepdad for most of my childhood and he helped raise me from the time I was three years old. He will be missed terribly by everyone in our family. I will always cherish the many memories I have of Mike--vacationing in New Orleans, going canoeing on the Red Cedar River in East Lansing, listening to Eric Clapton's Unplugged album on repeat in our living room...and especially the time I choked on a candy cane and he gave me the Heimlich! He always tried to help me with my math homework, but I could never quite keep up with his engineer brain :) Love always.

There are no words to express how much I will miss my baby brother. I have loved him from the minute he was born, as all his seven brothers and sisters and parents did. Michael shared a special bond with each of us. My world will never be the same without him. I pray he has found his peace.

I worked with Mike for many years he was among the smartest engineers I have ever worked with. He had a kind spirit and loved to talk about his daughters. They were the love of his life.

We are heartbroken to hear this news. Mike, John,Ezra, Rooty, Cruze and I spent countless hours together at the dog park and many Ottawa county parks. So many memories are flooding back, you will be so very missed.
