Mrs. Castro, you were always so generous with your heart and food.   I never left your home hungry, even if I arrived not needing to eat, you always asked if I wanted some tortillas and beans, of which, I HAD to have.   Your family is so close to my family.   I find it funny that people thought Pedro and I were cousins.   You will be deeply missed.   Say hi to my mom and dad when you see them.  Maybe you guys could talk about old times and their wedding.

Aunt Cookie my heart is hurting,I will never forget your loving and caring heart. Dec. of 1983 I moved down the street from you I remember you would put one or two of your grand children in a stroller and come have coffee with me and we would talk all afternoon, I will always hold that and lots of other memories in my heart. I love you.

Ahhhh, what will I miss most about Mrs. Castro?  Well, first her tortillas which I stole with wanton pleasure (along with her beans and everything else she cooked).  Her commanding presence in the kitchen & her quiet presence in the living room all those years. And her smile - warm and welcoming.  The way she and Pete would say my name and welcome me into their huge family on trips to the beach and Fennville.  Strangely, the comfort I felt there on 14th St. despite the noise, kids, yelling, playing, "always doing" household. The way she "was" - a part of our family that can never be forgotten or taken away.  She will be forever missed by me, and I know she will be thought of well and missed often by my brothers too.  God's peace is yours now Mrs. Castro - Enjoy. 

Wish I could be there to celebrate her life but know my heart is breaking for you all and my love is carried over the miles.
