

Shirley Percival, age 94, of Holland, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Holland Hospital. After meeting her husband John on a blind date and spending nearly 40 years together, she was widowed in 1982.
Shirley was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Amanda Kay Burnidge in 2004. Surviving are her children, Mary (Gary) Battaglia, Sally Leep, John Percival III, her honorary Swiss daughter, Vreni Sahli; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Burnidge, Elizabeth (Steve) Boerema, Katherine (Fred) Garcia, Nicholas (Amy) Battaglia, Adrienne (Kevin) Talley and William (Michelle) Leep. She will also be sadly missed by her 18 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Burnidge; Keaton and Keiran Boerema; Contessa, Freddy, Colin, Amaya and Mariela Garcia; Piper and Harlowe Battaglia; Samantha, Brett, Payton and Braylee Talley, Kelsey, Kaitlyn and William Leep; as well as her great-great-granddaughter, Tia Talley; and by many loving nephews, nieces and their families.
Shirley had many, many friends who will miss her dearly but especially her special friends, Cleo Venhuizen and Roy Vandenberg. Shirley had a love for all things social and spiritual and was an active member of her church. She was also happy spending her days filled with family, playing bridge, doing cross-stitch and knitting, traveling with family and friends, taking many cruises and trips. She also loved sports and faithfully followed Hope College Basketball, the Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers. Shirley and her husband John, along with her brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Lois Kardux were founding owners of Michigan Tile
in Holland.
Cremation and burial have taken place and visitation will be at Fellowship Reformed Church, 300 N. 168th Ave., Holland on Friday, March 18 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Fellowship Reformed Church with the Rev. Brian Keepers and the Rev. James Baar officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Fellowship Reformed Church – Building Fund.
