Alan and I were classmates from the 5th to 9th grades.  We were confirmed together at St. John's Lutheran Church.   Although I only knew him as a teenager, the tributes, especially Sheldon's ring so true.  He was such a sweet friend. It was just by chance that I remembered that today, April 2, is his birthday and decided to see where he was.  I'm so glad he had so many who loved him.

Alan and I lived two streets away from one another in LIndenhurst LI for many years and attended School Street School, Lindenhurst HS as well as St John's Lutheran Church together becoming very close friends. I will miss your wonderful nature and caring spirit. We must make the best of each moment we have and make sure to share with one another. Thank you for being the best father anyone could ask for. When mom died many (most) men would have crumbled and given up. Older in age, set to retire with no wife, but not you dad. You took care of me, put up with me, and taught me how to be a man. I will always look up to you. Abby, Olivia and I love you dearly. I'm so glad you got to see your grandchildren. Your legacy will never die. Now that I'm a father I can't help but think of you always and how you would do this or that, and everything you taught me.So many people cared about you dad. You never lost your faith right to the end. I remember I last phone call and I know you're in heaven with mom and grandma.I'm sorry we couldn't see a game together in the new dolphins stadium, or go to another marlins game. I'm sorry your life ended before it should of. You're the best dad, RIP- Matt, Abby and Liv

Alan was married to my sister, Linda. We shared many good times together when they visited Philadelphia and Longport, New Jersey. He spoke fluent Italian and my Italian grandmother enjoyed conversing with him. My parents always looked forward to his visits. We all enjoyed his stories about his travels and his hardy laugh. He was a devoted husband and wonderful father to Lisa and Matt when Linda passed away. I am glad he was able to see his grandchildren . My sincere condolences to Lisa and Matthew. We were lifelong friends. Our friendship began at St. Johns Lutheran Church Confirmation Class, in the fifties, in Lindenhurst. We had wonderful times at LHS and graduated together in 1959. He was a kind and gentle man, a good friend and I will miss him very much.

I have known Alan for almost 38 years. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his family very much. Alan was a great person and co-worker who was devoted to developing the cruise business at Port Everglades and was instrumental in making Port Everglades one of the top cruise ports in the world today. Alan was liked by everyone who met him and will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers to Lisa and Matt and their families.

My father was a nostalgic man, who reminisced about his youth on Long Island and his early days as a father often. He was a hard-working man, who vigorously valued his successful career at Port Everglades, as well as the many accomplishments it begot. He was a selfless man, who spent his entire life putting the needs of others before that of his own. He was a proud man, who gushed about his grandchildren to anyone who would listen. He was an amiable man, who made many friendships that he held dear. My father was a good man, who I will miss very much.

Alan was my Friend. He was loyal , at times funny, extremely talented and experience and he exuded a quality of "Class" that many men would emulate if they could. At first, when I came to Port Everglades, we worked together and ended up teaching and sharing with each other the finer points of experience in the industry we both loved. He was quiet but he could be intense and that quality served him well throughout his career.I never met anyone that didn't like this man and women loved him.I will miss Alan and I will fondly remember experiences we shared........ Rest well old friend.

Condolence from all of us at Seafarers' House, Alan made the world better and brighter with his vision, his charm and his kindness. It is our honor to have his name among the roster of honorees for the International Golden Compass Award and we will miss having him with us each year at the annual gala.
