Oma,You are not here with us anymore but I will always remember the smile on your face every time we came to visit. It wasn't a 'polite' smile or a 'politically correct' smile. It was a real, heartfelt and joyous smile. It showed me how much you loved all of us and how much you valued our presence. I will remember you calling me, my brother, and my cousins your "four boyfriends" after opa passed away. I will remember the candy you would sneak us behind our parent's back. I will remember the times my parents were at work and you volunteered to watch over me. I will remember the countless hours the family spent together in your apartment eating, talking, and laughing together. I always sensed your love and I know you would've done anything for your family. For that, I am forever grateful. You may not be with us anymore physically, but you will live on in our hearts and our minds. Rest in peace Oma.

A tribute to my dearest aunt Amaline whose funeral I attended this past weekend. Dear AuntieYou were always so sweet and in life we all loved you dearly. In death we continue to do the same. It broke our heart to lose you and part of us went with you but I guess God had his reasons when he called you home and reunited you with your beloved spouse. You left us such sweet memories and although we cannot see you, you will always be in our heart until we all meet again one day as God calls us one at a time.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Amaline, please accept my sincerest condolences. May our Heavenly Father guard your hearts and minds and give you the strength you need at this difficult time. Please take comfort in knowing that He is close to the ones broken at heart. (Psalms 34:18) "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit."

If I had to choose one word to describe Amaline, it would be the word "sweet". Amaline was sweet as a pea, sweet as can be. She was the sweetest mother in law I could have ever wished for. I fell in love with Ricky as well as with both Otto and Amaline.Amaline used to say loud and clear that if I had a disagreement with Ricky, he most likely would be wrong and I most likely would be right. That was a life sentence for Ricky and ...a license to kill for me. It mostly meant that I had gained a second family and that meant the world to me. In her own quiet and discreet way, Amaline spread so much love around her. So many acts of kindness and generosity that nobody would know about because she kept them to herself. I know of a young couple (not related to her) that she let live in her summer home for a whole year for free just to help them out. I also know of a young Haitian mother living in the US, who had left her daughter in Haiti; she shared with me how Amaline relentlessly and stubbornly helped her in any way she could to provide for her and protect her.One night in Haiti, Amaline braved a military curfew to go get my dog (Sushi) that my family had left behind fleeing to Mexico. She went up the mountain with her little car against her husband's wishes to get Sushi and bring her to her house, just because she knew how much I loved my dog.Amaline I will miss you. I m blessed because you were part of my life. Your memory will light the world you leave behind

My precious favorite Auntie Amaline, how does one say goodbye to such a beautiful human being, not to mention all the memories we shared! You will live on in my heart. May you rest in peace dear Auntie and may we see each other again. Amen

Aunt AmalineDear, sweet, gentle, aunt Amaline has passed, the last of the nine children of Khalil Saoud and Belinda Fekhouri. I cannot remember a time before now when there was no aunt Amaline to grace our lives, to soothe our aches, and to ease our hurt feelings. I have only the fondest memories of her from my very first recollections of childhood down to the present. I remember, for example, her collection of Capitol and EMI slate and vinyl records that were my introduction to American pop music, records like "Oh, my Papa", "Mama loves Mambo", "Don't let the Stars get in your Eyes", "How much is that Puppy in the Window?", and "That's Amore". She was the first person in the family to own a "pick up", which in those days designated a record player that could be picked up like a suitcase by its handle, and not a type of truck. It was from her records that I learned to pronounce English correctly.In those days, corporal punishment of misbehaving children was the rule and many were the times when she interposed herself between me and my father's belt. On one such occasion, she bore the mark of her intercession on her forearm for a couple of weeks. Later, when my father and Jacques Malval owned the Drive-In Theatre, and they suspected the girls at the ticket stand were pilfering part of the proceeds from their sales, it was aunt Amaline they asked to supervise the sale of tickets. And, as fate would have it, it was how she met Otto Saltzman who was to become her husband and the father of their children. I remember their wedding at aunt Adibe's house in Musseau and how the tears welled up in my eyes when they played "Ce n'est qu'un au Revoir" as she and uncle Otto left for their honeymoon in Austria.Later still, when Hala and I got married, she and aunt Adibe threw us a party at the CÃ¨dres du Liban. She gave us her house in Kenscoff and her cook, AndrÃ©e, for four days while we were on our honeymoon. I know that must have required a sacrifice of her and of uncle Otto, and she did it gladly. Hala came to love her almost as much as I did. For her many kindnesses toward me throughout my life, I will miss her and I will cherish my memories of her for as long as I live.Michel

Mami was the one that brought us all together. Her apartment is where we choseto meet for years. With how busy everyone is, it becomes difficult for family tokeep in touch. But even so, all of us always knew that for every birthday, andfor every holiday, we could count on seeing each other at mamam Amalines house.My grandma will be dearly missed in all of our hearts. Still, I speak with somesort of relief as she and Oppa have gone long enough without each other.

Amaline was a lovely soul. Always happy with her lipstick and talking about how blessed she has been first to have had an amazing husband and wonderful children. There was never a time that she was not joyous, and she warmed your heart whenever you were in her company. She always had a good word never a mean thing to say about anyone. The love of her love was her Otto, and as each day passed she talked about how much she missed him. Amaline will never be forgotten, and this sweet, lovely, wonderful soul has a direct flight to heaven where she will see her Otto again. She will be missed!
