Aretta was born in Quinwood, West Virginia to Sam Bruns and Mackie Jane Hicks. She went to school in Charleston. She married William Hodnett on July 24th, 2004 in Hollywood, Florida. She graduated from McMillan Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, specializing in the Neo-natal Unit for Newborns and Premature Infants for over 36 years. She was a Army Core Cadet, a poetry enthusiast and was involved in the Taft Baptist Church.
Aretta is preceded in death by Thomas Schauer.
Aretta is survived by her spouse William Hodnett, her children Beverly Wilson, Charles Schauer and Donna Banks. Her eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Tuesday the 13th of February 2024 at 11am at Taft Baptist Church.
