Beulah Laird (Bennett) was the fourth child born to her parents Celestine and Kelton Bennett on October 29, 1947 in St. Catherine, Jamaica. She often recalled her happy childhood with fondness and she was a studious child and young adult.
Beulah’s formal education and training began in Jamaica at Seaward Primary School, St. Hugh’s High School and later graduated from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting.
Beulah married Allan Laird on December 18, 1976, at Up Park Camp in Kingston, Jamaica and together they raised four children.
She began her professional career as an accountant with Paul Goldson and Company, where she worked for over 10 years. She later became a highly successful Life Insurance Agent with ALICO and Sagicor (Formerly Life of Jamaica), serving her clients for over 25 years. She was a legend. She was a natural. She could sell ice to Eskimoes. Through her dedication, integrity and passion for her work, Beulah earned numerous prestigious honors, including:
Caribbean Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Award;
Executive Club Awards;
President of the 2003 Century Club Award,;
Caribbean Presidents Circle Award;
Branch Leader Circle Award;
Member of the Multi-Million Dollar Round Table.
For several years she was the top saleswoman, not just in the region, but in the entire company. But it wasn’t just the numbers for her, it was about making sure you felt great knowing that if a death occurred, you would have been covered.
Mrs. Laird or Mommy Laird, as she was often called by her clients, taught us that sales is about connection. She prepared us for the moment in every possible financial way. The emotional part, we are on our own. So as we say goodbye, let us remember that while her policy here on earth has matured, her memory is fully paid and non-cancelable.
Beulah is preceded in death by her parents Celestine and Amanda, her sister and her daughter, Shana. She is survived by her spouse, Allan, her children Loen, Wayne and Stacey, her sisters, Norma and Yvonne, brothers, Arnold and Kelton, grandchildren, Nathaniel and Aiden, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mom, we miss you. You always gave 110 percent and never stopped fighting for what’s right. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion and an insane work ethic. We thank you mom for the words of advise and the beautiful lives we lived because of you, your hard work, your struggles and the boundless love you had for us all. We will forever keep you in our hearts with God.
