

Carmelo was born in La Coruna, Spain to Alejandro Gomez and Esperanza Gonzalez on July 15, 1937. He was in the Spanish Navy and joined the International Merchant Marines sailing around the world before he landed in New York. He married Narde Sao on December 14, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York. Carmelo worked in the maritime repair industry since the 1960’s. He began in topside repair in Red Hook, NY eventually moving to the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he owned and operated GMD Shipyard which still remains a thriving business under the leadership of his son Alex. Carmelo was a force in the maritime industry and will be forever remembered for his hard work, dedication and countless contributions to the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Carmelo is survived by his beloved wife Narde Gomez, Loving children, Alexander Gomez (Adrienne Beata) and Lillian Servino (Michael)Adored Granddaughters, Lucia and Olivia Servino, Dear siblings, Alejandro Gomez and Isabel Jones. He was preceded in death by his brother Eudosio Gomez and Sisters, Luz Divina Granna and Carmen Gomez.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 14, 2023, from 3-7PM at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 10:30AM at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
