

Catherine Samuel was a loving, gentle, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law, and friend. She touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, kindness, joy, and unwavering devotion to family. Rooted in strong Christian values, Catherine lived her life with grace, humility, and generosity. Though traditional in nature, she possessed a playful spirit that radiated warmth and laughter. She loved to sing, dance, and share joyful moments with family and friends, always finding ways to bring light to others' lives.
Catherine received her primary education at Rosalie Primary School in Rosalie, Dominica, West Indies. From an early age, she demonstrated responsibility, discipline, and a deep care for others, qualities that remained with her throughout her life.
In Dominica, Catherine devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family as a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, nurturing her children and creating a home grounded in love, faith, and tradition.
After migrating to St. Croix, Catherine continued her life of service as a nanny and caregiver at Beulah AME Zion Elementary School. She was affectionately known as “Granny” by the students, a name that reflected her patience, warmth, and unconditional love. Her nurturing presence left a meaningful and lasting impact on countless children and families.
Catherine had a deep love of culture and the arts and was an avid, graceful cultural dancer. She danced and competed in traditional Dominican dances, including quadrille, heel-and-toe polka, meringue, and waltz, both locally in the village of Rivière Cyrique and nationally at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. Her passion for dance continued in the diaspora. While living in St. Croix, Catherine became an honorary member of the Dominica Cultural Group of St. Croix, proudly preserving and sharing her cultural heritage with joy and dignity.
Catherine was the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Keturah Joseph, Leona Registe, Sylvania Samuel, Clodine Samuel, Angela Samuel, Juliana Powell, and Goretti Samuel Grant. Her sons: Sylvester Samuel, Egbert Samuel, Philbert Samuel, Lazarus Samuel, and Jules Samuel.
She is also remembered by her grandchildren: Charmaine Munnings, Mitchell Shillingford, Myron Samuel, Sheran Hackshaw, Tristan Samuel, Hilroy Samuel, Audain Samuel, Vanessa Tennison, Monelle Hector, Micah Samuel, Meion Samuel, Chanelle Samuel, Cailleigh Samuel, Cayden Samuel, Shanita Ismael, Elina Romain, and Trisha Henry; and her great-grandchildren: Joshua Hackshaw, Gabriel Hackshaw, Sydni Samuel, Myles Samuel, Tristeena Samuel, Octavia Shillingford, Malik Shillingford, and Trisanna Samuel.
She is further survived by her daughters-in-law, Angela Samuel, Meyona Samuel, and Lucia Samuel; granddaughters-in-law, Elsa Samuel, Beena Samuel, and Sonilia Shillingford; former daughter-in-law, Seraphine Stephenson; sons-in-law, Alvin Powell and Kevin Grant; and grandsons-in-law, Shedland Munnings, Eugene Tennison, Trey Hector, and William Southhard.
Cherishing her memory are her nieces, Roma Prescott, Justina Baptiste, and Florencia Harnanancin, and her nephews, Paschal Prescott, Leo Prescott, William Matthew, Antoine Baptiste, and Simon Baptiste.
Catherine Samuel’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith in God, love for family, service to others, and pride in her cultural heritage. Her laughter, gentle spirit, and joyful dancing will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her. Though she has entered eternal rest, her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured, the values she upheld, and the love she so freely gave.
A visitation will take place at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, located at 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024, on January 30, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, 7200 Davie Road Extension Hollywood, Florida 33024.
Interment will follow at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens East, Taft St, Hollywood, FL 33024, on January 31, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
