

Charles A. Brooks, of Plantation, Florida died unexpectedly on February 16, 2016 at Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation, FL at 73 years of age. He was most commonly known by "Chuck" Brooks, but was fondly referred to as "Coco" by many of his friends and loved ones. Born in Danville, Illinois on July 22, 1942, son of Charles Wilbert Brooks and Evelina (Jackson) Brooks. Raised and educated in Danville, Chuck honorably served in the United States Army as a Combat "Dustoff" Helicopter Medic during the Vietnam War from 1963-1966. Before moving to South Florida, he retired from 20 years of dedicated service from the Danville Veterans Administration Medical Center. Chuck married the love of his life, Jean, after being together for 17 years and remained happily married until the day he passed away for a total of 34 loving years together.
He was a sports fanatic who enjoyed football, basketball and baseball. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, gambling and watching horse races. He was a very proud member of the American Legion Post 40 in Fort Pierce, FL. Chuck is survived by his wife Jean M. (Lindsey) Brooks, daughter Lindsey (Karl) Pinard, his beloved grandchildren Ayden and Emma Pinard and Danielle and Chayera Brooks, as well as Ashli and Anthony Johnson. He is also survived by three other children from a previous marriage and their spouses and children, Charles "Chay" Brooks, II, Nichole (Brooks) Newson and Lamont Brooks.
There will be a memorial gathering on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 2:00-4:00pm at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024. A celebration of Chuck's life will begin at 4:00pm and will be followed by a small reception at the funeral home. Relatives, friends and family are kindly invited to attend.
