

Cheryl M. Willette, 66, of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away at home, in her sleep on February 9, 2012. She was born in Willimantic, Connecticut, and predeceased by her parents, Margaret Gollner and Roland Marrotte as well as her sister, Mary Ellen. Her family moved to Islamorada, Florida, when Cheryl was a young girl and she spent her childhood in the Florida Keys where her family ran a motel. After attending high school in Florida and Vanderbilt University; Cheryl worked for many years for the law firm of English McCaughn and O'Bryan of Fort Lauderdale. Cheryl also contributed artwork to several prominent magazines including the New Yorker. Cheryl later enjoyed a successful career as an insurance agent and also operated a flower shop called Treasures in Flowers in Ft. Lauderdale, which specialized in elegant floral displays. For the past two decades Cheryl worked as an executive assistant for two real estate companies--Broward Realty Corp., and Boywic Farms, Ltd. She was active in many organizations and was a founding member of the Junior Opera Guild of Broward County. She also was very involved in the Night of Literary Feasts for the Broward County Public Library Foundation. Cheryl also volunteered her time with the Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council; additionally she also dabbled in politics, being elected in 2008 to the Board of Supervisors of Pompano Beach.
Cheryl is survived by aunts and uncles Joey and Fedilis Gollner, and Frances and Peter Pappas, both of Connecticut, cousins Billy, Peggy and Michael O'Neil of Connecticut and Caley O'Neil of California.
A memorial service for Cheryl will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Fred Hunter Funeral Home at 718 South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the WPBT Channel 2, Miami, Florida and to the Broward County Public Library Foundation. Condolences may be shared at www.fredhunters.com.
