

Cleo Katherine Tillotson Freeman was born at home September 30, 1912 to Katherine Lofton Tillotson and Henry V. Tillotson, in McCall Creek, MS. Her birth weight was two (2) pounds. She was wrapped in flannel, placed in a shoe box, fed sugar water by dropper and kept warm near a wood burning stove. Later in childhood she survived malaria. She is one of ten children. She participated in farm and household duties. She graduated from McCall Creek High School and Vicksburg Infirmary Hospital School of Nursing in Vicksburg, MS.
She married a local young man, Roger A. Freeman, serving in the US Army. She had a strong sense of family and moved her family wherever her husband was stationed. Stateside she lived in Lawton, OK, Ft. Campbell, KY, Hopkinsville, KY, Killeen, TX and Shelbyville, TN. Overseas assignments were 2 years in Germany, 1 year in Japan and 1 year in Panama Canal Zone.
World War II and the Korean Conflict separated her from her husband and she did a wonderful job being both Mother and Father to her 4 children. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and loved gardening, crocheting and reading. She loved the Lord, was an avid Bible reader and had a strong prayer life. She was loved by all who met her. She has lived the past 18 years in Fort Lauderdale, FL with her daughter Faye Kartrude.
She is survived by her children, Roger A. Freeman, Jr., Faye Kartrude, Linda Hoffman and Sue King; grandchildren, Kathy Vold, Julie Kartrude, Joey Thackxton, Kimberly Freeman, Chris Freeman, Ginger P. Pool, Mary Catherine Cox and Elizabeth Moura-Letts; great grandchildren, Jack & William, Vold, Erik Ragner Moura-Letts and Zachery & Kayla Cox. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger A. Freeman, Sr.
Services will be held in Mississippi.
