
David Frederick Horney of Hollywood, FL; passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on January 15, 2014, after a six year battle with cancer. His unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried him through the last six months of his life.
Born and raised in Whitehall, by his parents David (deceased) and Myrtle Horney. Fred moved to Florida at the age of 21. Fred started his career with the City of Hollywood in 1980 and retired after thirty-two years of service. Fred began as a utilities worker 1 and retired as supervisor of the meter shop.
Survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Susie Horney, daughter Gretchen, son-in-law Michael, grandchildren, Nathaniel, Brayden, and Gigi, as well as grandchildren Joshua and Jon Panella, his mother Myrtle, two brothers ; Mike and Danny Horney and three sisters Carol McNealy, Becky Jones and Janet Smith and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Frederick Horney, IV in 2010.and sister Debbie Minor in 2002.
Fred loved life, playing golf, softball and camping. He loved the Lord, and attended Calvary Chapel Plantation. After his son was killed by a drunk driver, Fred formed the David Horney Memorial Scholarship Foundation to provide scholarships to deserving students.
The viewing will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 between the hours of 5:30-9:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held on Friday January 24, 2014 11:00 AM at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft St. in Hollywood, Florida. A graveside service will immediately follow.
