I will miss my Uncle David very much. I spent a lot of time with him and my grandparents when I was very young and because of that, we because buddies for life and we shared a special love for each other. I was always sorry he lived so far away. Luckily, I was able to visit when ever I was in Florida and although it wasn't very often, our visits always meant the world to me. I last saw him in March 2014 and I was able to see his new home at Abbey Manor, and I took him to one of his favorite old stomping grounds, Capone's Flicker Light Restaurant and sat on the deck outside right on the intracoastal water way and enjoyed the view together. I was very sorry not to make it down to see him in the last month of his life and that will be a regret, but I was planning to celebrate his 80th birthday with him in June and just couldn't get away before that. I'm sorry he didn't make it to that monumental birthday. We will celebrate this special birthday for him, and I hope he will look down on us and smile! I'm sorry for your loss, I to know what it feels to lose a loved one to death. For many death seems to be a part of life. It's during times such as these that we can find comfort in the Bible. Psalms 34:18 assures us that God is near to those broken in heart and those crushed in spirit he saves. He also promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again. "There is going to be a resurrection"-Acts 24:15. Also, Revelation 21:4 gives us great hope of seeing our loved ones again: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. John 5: 28, 29, Acts 24: 15, are also text with hope that someday we can see our loved ones again. We need not fear anymore for God has promise in Isaiah 25:8 that he will swallow up death forever" what great joy to be able to live forever without the fear of losing our loved ones again. We all hope for that.

I too will miss my Uncle David a lot. One of my earliest childhood memories is wearing a little nurse costume he brought me - I'm sure because at the time I think I wanted to be a nurse! He was always so thoughtful and generous. I'm so grateful that he was able to spend his last years at Abby Manor Assisted Living, where he was able to create a local 'family' of true caring friends, since we all lived so far away. I'm also so thankful to have been able to spend some time with him during his last month of life, and will always cherish our conversations, as difficult as they were since he couldn't speak very loud. I was especially surprised to find that one of my hell-raising uncle's favorite movies was the chick-flick rom-com 'Must Love Dogs!' I think that says a lot about what a sweetie he was beneath his rough and tumble exterior! To the end, and under the most difficult and tragic of circumstances, he maintained his sense of humor and love for life and others. I too am sorry he didn't make it to his 80th birthday, which he was so looking forward to, but we will celebrate it for him and know he will be with us in spirit. He is greatly missed!

It was my great privilege to spend the past month with David. Much of that time we had our heads together as he struggled to speak and I struggled to hear him. We had some wonderful conversations and I saw this impish grin and twinkle in his eyes often as we laughed together. Although by David's own admission he spend much of his life "terrorizing the world" he said that when he got to Abbey Manor he became...settled. He was beloved by all at Abbey Manor. While he was in the hospital after his tragic fall he also won the hearts of the nurses who cared for him and other members of the staff for his courage, gentlemanly manners and sense of humor. Our regret is that David was unable to celebrate his 80th birthday. Before he fell he had made plans for a grand celebration complete with the invitation list. I know he will be with us in spirit when we celebrate his long life next month. I am happy that David is now at peace. I am grateful for the month we had together. I miss him very much.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. May you draw comfort from the hope of being reunited with your precious loved one found at Acts 24:15 which says, "There is going to be a resurrection." Until this future promise is fulfilled may reflecting on it provide you with a measure of comfort and peace during this very difficult time.
