Dina Mehu, affectionately known as "Mamita," was born on November 21, 1925 to Mercedes Garcia and Manuel Albaladejo of Oran, Algeria. Two years after her birth, her parents returned to their birth place Alicante, Spain. After the Spanish Civil War, Dina's parents moved to San Feliu De Guixoles, where she grew up with her 2 siblings until her parents passed. A few years later, Dina moved to Barcelona to finish her education in chemistry. Later, she moved to Marseille, France to study French and soon after that, she was blessed with the opportunity to study at Emmaus Bible School in Lausanne, Geneva, where she met her future husband, Louis Mehu. They soon became friends while enrolled at Emmaus and fell in love. In 1959 Pasteur Louis Mehu returned to Haiti, dedicating himself to the ministry of evangelism. Feeling torn about leaving her behind, Pasteur Mehu invited Dina to Haiti where their love flourished and soon after they married on February 13, 1961.
Despite cultural differences, Dina managed to easily integrate herself into the Haitian community. She devoted her life to the ministry of evangelism and participated in many evangelic activities. She was a dedicated member of the Baptist Church in Cap-Haitian. For 29 years she worked in the radio ministry of 4VEH, preaching the gospel and reaching out to people in Haiti, North and South America, as well. After her husband passed in 1992, she moved to the United States in 1998 to live with her daughter Naomie Mehu-Byas. Despite her physical limitations, she continued to work with evangelic missionaries in the Haitian community. All that she did in the mission field, she did it for the glory of God.
After suffering from lung disease for nearly 5 years, on September 18, our beloved Mamita Dina went home to be with the Lord at the age of 90. Her death demonstrates the fragility of human life. It also encourages us to cherish every moment that we have with one another. Dina Mehu's core motivating force was love and it was her love that has made a profound impact on children and everyone else whose lives she touched over the years. She may be departed from this world but she will live in our hearts forever. She gave her children a strong foundation on which they have lived a sustainable life.
In her passing Mamita Dina leaves to mourn, her daughter Naomie Mehu-Byas, Henoc Mehu and Paul (Pablito) Mehu; her sisters Noemi Albaladejo and Isabel Albaladejo; her grandchildren: Stephanie Mehu, Dina Patricia Mehu, Sabrina Mehu, Hinoska Mehu, Pablo Mehu, Tinoc Mehu, Josue Mehu; her great granddaughter: Alicia Mehu; her daughters in law: Cruz Maria Mehu and Angela Ramirez Mehu, her son-in-law Jean-Herve Byas, her niece: Sylvia Lucena Albaladejo; her nephew: Sergio Lucena Albaladejo and her brother-in-law Andres Lucena Fuentes.
