

Born in Montclair, NJ and raised in Bloomfield, NJ, Dr. Gregg was the son of Benjamin and Catherine (Fales) Gregg, and brother of the late Capt. Paul C Gregg, MD. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, was a Son of the American Revolution Fort Lauderdale Chapter and a member of the American Clan Gregor Society.
Dr. Gregg received his bachelor's and Master's degrees from Montclair State, and his Doctorate in Social Psychology from Lehigh University. He was a Life Member of National and New Jersey Educational Associations.
After teaching grades 6 to 12 and serving as a Director of Guidance in Livingston, NJ, Don began teaching at MSU in 1961 in the Department of Counseling, Human Development and Educational Leadership. He received many awards honoring his service to MSU and to the graduate students of New Jersey, including the MSU Alumni Award, George King Community Service Award, Faculty Senate Award, the NJ Professional Counselors Association Distinguished Service Award, and was conferred the title Professor Emeritus. He was especially honored for developing the first Masters Degree concentration in substance abuse counselor education in the State of New Jersey; he developed the undergraduate and graduate programs for Addictions Counseling. Don taught a total of forty-six years, thirty-seven of those at Montclair State University with specialties in Group Counseling and action methods of interacting. Don was well-respected in educational and addictions circles in New Jersey. For all of his accomplishments, Don was a humble searcher of truth and kindness.
Throughout his life, Don was described as a wise, gentle, compassionate man, who accepted people where they were and walked their path with them, nurturing empathy and understanding. About him was often said: "If it was important to you, it was important to him." Don was a talented teacher who inspired students to communicate skillfully with honesty and integrity by his role modeling. He loved teaching his students and he enjoyed his friends, and the love of his family was his driving force. The happiest events of his life were those when the family would gather, particularly when all would circle around to sing and dance to the song "We are Family."
He was ever a devoted husband to his adoring wife, Audrey (Korsak) Roberts Gregg, and a blessed father to seven beautiful, talented children and partners; Audrey Roberts Pellinger, Davie, FL., Christopher (Lorraine) Gregg, Easton, PA. The late Donald J "Duke" Gregg, Donna (David) Campos, Union, NJ., Jeanne (Andy) Schuck Midland, TX., Mary (Jonathan) Durant, West Milford, NJ., Timothy (Jill) Gregg, Whippany, NJ.
Proud grandfather to his thirteen precious grandchildren; Adeline Durant, Shelby Durant, Carly Gregg, Dylan Gregg, Johnna Gregg, Kyle Gregg, Luke Gregg, Ryan Gregg, Hunter Pellinger, Tyler Pellinger, Ashley Schuck, Lts Brett and Heather Schuck.
Brother of; the late Capt. Paul C Gregg, MD, Kristine and John Giannone, Mildred Gregg and Ruth Johanssen.
Survived also by dear friend Lourdes Montoro-Cardo of Barcelona, Spain, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Don's Life will be held on Sunday May 17, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 1401 N. Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach, FL. A second ceremony is also being planned in Montclair, New Jersey in June or July. If able to attend and or wishing to share memories, please inform Audrey of your intentions.
