

Edith was born in Queens Village, New York to Charles and Jesse Bamforth on February 24, 1930. She married her first husband, Mickey Payne, on July 21, 1952; and married her second husband, Wiley Gates, on April 4, 1990.
She went to business school in New York City and worked as a secretary, head supervisor of office staff in an office on Wall Street, and manager at Kelly Services. After retiring and moving to Davie, Florida, she taught knitting and crochet classes at Michael's craft store. She loved to knit, crochet, travel, go on cruises and play bridge with her friends.
Edith is preceded in death by her father and mother Charles and Jesse Bamforth, her first husband Mickey Payne, her second husband Wiley Gates, her significant other Jerry Mintz.
Edith is survived by her daughter Joyce (Barry) Payne, her son Thomas (Kathleen) Payne, her stepson Herb (Clare) Gates, grandchildren Tracy Gates, Dan (Lea) Gates, and her great-grandson Grayson Gates.
Edith is also survived by her brother-in-law Jerry Payne and his family, sister-in-law Barbara (Don) Hendrix and her family; the children of Jerry Mintz and their families; and many cousins and friends. She was a beloved mother, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother and friend to many.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 11:30 am - 2:00 pm on November 17, 2018 at the Community Room in Fred Hunter's Funeral Home in Davie, Florida. Arrangements are by Fred Hunter's.
