80 years old, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Evelyn, a native Texan, was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and graduated from the University of Texas. She and her late husband, George T. Stevens Jr. MD, moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1962. She is survived by her children, Gaye (Art) Bengochea, George (Melanie) Stevens III, Edward Stevens and her grandchildren Meme (Joey) Evancho, G. Talbot Stevens IV, Tanner Stevens, Parker Stevens, Blake Cartier-Stevens and Austin Cartier-Stevens. She had been active in the Junior League, the PTA at Harbordale Elementary School, the Auxiliary at Broward General Medical Center and the Broward County Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association. She was an avid outdoors woman, fishing and later birding were her passions. She hosted many Seafood Festival parties in Chokoloskee, her second home. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, May 14, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 718 South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wildlife Care Center 3200 SW 4th Ave; Ft. Lauderdale FL 33315 or the Audubon Society.
