

George F. Hess, II passed away October 5, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale. Born May 13, 1939, in Oak Park, Illinois, he was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin E. Hess and Carol Hackman Hess. Growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, George attended The Episcopal Academy and graduated from The Phelps School and Colorado State University where he was a member of the social fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Following college, he entered the US Navy where he served aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Semmes DDG-18 as assistant supply officer. Released from active duty, he entered Suffolk University Law School in Boston, graduating with a JD in 1970. After two years of practicing law in Philadelphia, he returned to Boston and earned an LLM in taxation from Boston University Law School. He taught at Suffolk University Law School, then moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1974, where he practiced law for 35 years. Besides his love of the law, his interests included boating, scuba diving, mountain hiking and snow skiing. He was a devoted member of All Saints Episcopal Church where he served as chancellor for 25 years. George is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Diane; son, Franklin E. Hess, II, his wife Emily Berger and their daughter, Zelda of Los Angeles, CA; son David Gillespie, his wife Sandy and their sons, Andrew and Ryan of Littleton, CO. George was a true gentleman, honest, just, ethical and kind. He will be deeply missed. The funeral service will be at All Saints Episcopal Church, 333 Tarpon Drive in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday October 10, 2015, at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors by the US Navy will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gold Coast Hospice, 309 SE 18th St., Ft.
