Guy Richard D'Ambrosio

Guy Richard DAmbrosio was born to Eunice Clare (Pottle) and Guy Thomas DAmbrosio on February 21, 1943 in Rochester, New York. Between two great presidents, Lincoln and Washington,as he was fond of pointing out. His sister, Linda was born 6 years later. Guy T. and Eunice divorced and Sonny as Guy was known to his family spent time with his mothers mom , Eva, in Boston, but he adored his grandma and grandpa DAmbrosio. Every Sunday was family dinner at their home, where all the grandchildren gathered and became bonded for life.

Grandma and Grandpa DAmbrosio moved to Florida after Grandpa retired. Sonny, after a tour of duty in Vietnam as a US Army Ranger Sharpshooter and honorably discharged in 1966, moved to Florida in 1968 to be with his Grandma after Grandpa DAmbrosio passed away.

He got a job at AD Weiss Lithograph on the presses. He worked his way up to First Pressman over the years.

In 1970 he married Lynn Williams and had a son, Christopher Alan, in 1977.

After working many years in the pressroom, he transferred to the maintenance department and worked his way up to Maintenance Supervisor. While working at AD Weiss, which later was renamed St. Ives Inc. after a buyout by an English printing company, he met a new employee in 1978, Eileen Pyle. They were work friends for many years.

In March 2001, Guy and Lynn divorced and the work friendship blossomed. They married on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, 2001 and resided in Century Village in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

In October of 2002, Guy was retired from St. Ives after 34 years of service. He studied for his CD license and started to work for the trolley company as a driver inside Century Village. He retired in 2005 at the age of 62.

He made many friends throughout his working life and still had close ties to many of them, but family ties were pulling him to get in touch with his Rochester family after twenty years of no contact. In January of 2007, contact was made after both sides did internet searches. In May of 2007, Guy and Eileen went to Rochester for a family reunion between brother and sister and the cousins and uncle he was so fond of. Everyone was happy and reunited.

In August of 2007, Guy found out he had Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). In October of 2007, he caught a cold that turned into pneumonia, which caused the MDS to turn to Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). After chemotherapy, many blood and platelet transfusions and hospitalizations, Guy was elated to find out he was a good candidate for a stem cell bone marrow transplant. That happened in May of 2008, at the H.Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Center, in Tampa, Florida.

After a four month stay in Tampa, Guy and Eileen returned home to Pembroke Pines in August of 2008. Unfortunately in January of 2009 they received the news that Guy had come out of remission and the AML had returned. He had to endure more chemo, more blood and platelet transfusions, and more hospitalizations. On August 20th, Guy had his second transplant at Moffitt and everything was going well and he came home on September 10th. Because his body never fully recovered from the first transplant, the second took a toll on his body and immune system. But he was slowly getting stronger and exercising daily and making plans for the future.

On Friday, November 20th, he was transported to Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, after Eileen came home from work and found he was having trouble breathing. He had pneumonia and he had to be sedated and put on a ventilator to breathe easier. He received many IVs of antibiotics and other medications, but he did not respond as he should of and his organs started to fail. He was removed from the ventilator. He never regained conscienousness and passed away peacefully, in his loving wifes embrace, one hour later on November 24th, 2009

Guy was predeceased by his parents, both sets of grandparents and his aunt, Josephine DeRosa.

He is survived by his sister Linda Wright, his wife of 8 years, Eileen, his mother and father-in-law ,John and Dorothy Pyle, his sister-in-law, Sharon Pyle, his brother-in-law, Gary Pyle, his uncle Tony (who will celebrate his 93rd birthday on December 12th) and his favorite cousins Ann Jackson, Josie Levy, Peter DAmbrosio, Gene DAmbrosio, Jody Ann Rowe and Nick DeRosa. He is also survived by his ex-wife Lynn Williams and his son, Christopher.
