After a lifetime of accomplishments other men can only dream of, Jack Edward Beal passed away peacefully on December 18, 2016. Jack was born on December 15, 1929, in Junction City, Kansas to Forast and Gladys Beal. He grew up in a small town, with farmland and carried a .22/.410 over/under when he brought in the horses each morning in case he saw a rabbit that could be added to the pot. He taught his sons to shoot with that very rifle. He graduated from Kanas State University with a degree in structural engineering, married the red-headed girl he first met in kindergarten, served his county in Korea with the US Army Corps of Engineers, then worked for a construction company he would later own and grow into one of the largest private employers in Broward County, Florida.
An avid conservationist, Jack hunted on six (6) continents (he had no desire to shoot a penguin). He knew there were panthers in the Everglades before the Fish and Game Service did. His name appears numerous times in Boone & Crockett and Rowland Ward's Records of Big Game, he was an official measurer for Boone and Crockett, and was probably proudest of the 13 species of big horn sheep he collected during his life.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; four children, Jack (Becky) of Bradenton, Michael (Patty) of Naples, Brian (Krista) of Belgrade MT, and Shirley (Brian Counts) of Deland; grandchildren Logan (Brandy), Casey (Stacy), Travis, Tyler (Rikki), Erin, and Spencer and great granddaughters Elleri, Amalia, Delaney and Elsie, all of whom he hugged during his last days.
We are sure Jack would not want his friends to be sad at his passing. He is climbing up to the top of a ridge somewhere with his dogs just to see what is on the on the other side.
A visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with short service to follow on Wednesday, December 21 at Fred Hunter's 718 South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, Jack would appreciate donations to Salvation Army or Camp Boggy Creek,30500 Brantley Branch Road, Eustis, FL. 32736.
