

He was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on December 19, 1922, son of Elbert Hutchinson Snead and Amy Prudence (Seymour) Snead. At the age of 9, he and his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he remained until his death. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army, with the 85th Chemical Motar Battalion during WWII . Jack was a recipient of the Purple Heart from serious injuries he sustained and was the lone survivor when a convoy he was riding, plummeted into a revene from a bridge that had earlier been attacked. Also awarded the American Theater Service Metal and the WW II Victory Metal.
Before his retirement, Jack was president of Snead-Canite Bulldozing, Inc in Hollywood, which was founded in 1968. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Lake Placid, Florida for their vacations. He was a former longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and more recently of Sheridan Hills Baptist Church where Jack was recognized this past Veterans Day for his service to his country. He was very active and still driving and going to church every Sunday. Member of the American Legion Post 0310 in Hallandale for 59 years and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He always enjoyed the family reunions and was well known for his "Jack-Dogs"
Survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Margaret "Jay" (Daily) Snead, three loving grandchildren, Pamela (Tony) Wright, Kenneth Patrick "Pat" Kiely and Stephen Michael Kiely, two great grandchildren, Amanda and Travis Wright, two brothers, Pete Snead and Charles Snead. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his only child, Janean Kiely DuBois of Hollywood, Florida in 2001, three sisters, Edna Snead Willis, Marybelle Snead Eley, Ruth Snead Lindsey and two brothers, E.H. Snead an Gary Snead.
Visitation on Monday, March 16th from 1:00 ~ 2:00 P.M. at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood. Funeral Service at the funeral home will begin at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Fred Steen officiating. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Jack will be buried with military honors at Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hollywood.
