James E. Cooper, Jr., 84, of Ft. Lauderdale passed away Jan. 30, 2015, after a short illness. He was born July 21, 1930, in Raleigh, NC, the son of James Edwin and Goldie (Harris) Cooper. Jim graduated after 4 years from the Ferree School of Art in Raleigh, specializing in commercial art.
He worked as a freelance graphic artist in Washington, DC, until retiring in 1988 and moving to Ft. Lauderdale. Jim continued painting in retirement, ultimately opening the Art 'N' Massage Gallery.
Jim is survived by his partner of 38 years, Bob Daugherty; sister, Arlene Pulley Morris; nephews, Van Pulley (Tulin) and Michael Pulley (Kelly); niece, Adair Pulley Preston (Jim); 8 great-nieces and nephews; extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his companion of 61 years, Peyton Skipwith Hopkins, his parents and a brother, Tommy.
The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 333 Tarpon Drive, Ft. Lauderdale. Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium of All Saints Episcopal Church.
