James Allyn Finch, 64, of Fort Lauderdale, FL passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 18th. Born in Summit, NJ on June 9, 1955 to Harold Allyn Finch and Alberta (nee Lievestro), Jimmy enjoyed exploring outdoors with his younger siblings and neighborhood friends. He was a boy scout, a member of the local hunting and rifle clubs, and a football player for his school. Jim was fond of horses, and in the mid-70s, groomed and trained Jackie Onassis' horse- Virginia Star, AKA Joe- and would reminisce of wearing her riding boots because they had the same shoe size. In April of 1980, he married Kathleen Bradson, and the following year, they welcomed twins. In the early 80s, he worked for Barnett Roofing in Millington before starting his own successful company, J. A. Finch Roofing. He was a volunteer fireman for the Whitehouse and Surf City fire departments, and took some courses for EMT in his free time. He loved the beach, especially swimming in the ocean or fishing with his daughters. He did not, however, like wearing shoes unless it was absolutely necessary or unless they were Jackie O's.Survived by his mother, Alberta, of Summit, NJ; his brothers Thomas (Martha) of New Providence, NJ and Charles (Mary Jane) of Millington, NJ; his sister Elizabeth Platt (David) of Summit, NJ; his children Sara Farrington (William) of Colorado Springs, CO and Meghan Finch of Surf City, NJ; his grandchildren Maggie, Gillian, William, and Zoey; and his nieces and nephews Nikki, Jamie, Kalyn, Ryan, Andrew, and Corey. Predeceased by his father, Allyn in 1978. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
