Johnny will be so missed. Bryanna and I had such a blast with you, Tommy, and Roseanne at Disney during our first trip to Florida in 2013. It was then that Johnny showed Bryanna how to be fearless of roller coasters... And showed me how to gain courage as I was the adult that had to go on all the more intense rides with them. But Johnny also did something very important for us that week: he saved Bryanna. As Johnny, Tommy, and Bryanna swam in the neighborhood pool together having a blast, Bryanna began having trouble keeping up with them. She is not quite a good swimmer yet, particularly in deep water. Ro and I noticed she was struggling to stay afloat and was going underwater. In a panic, as Johnny was the closest person to her at that moment, I yelled out to him to help her. In an instant, without hesitation, he pulled her up from underwater and helped her get to the edge of the pool. Everything had happened so suddenly and Bryanna was alright minus the scare, but the fact remains that had Johnny not been in the right place at the right time things could have ended much worse. Bryanna (and I) is forever thankful to him and even wrote about him in school in response to the question: "Who is your hero?". I know Johnny was also very proud for his good deed and I believe this helped him to earn a Boy Scout badge. Johnny, we will all miss you so much. I'm glad I have fond memories and had a chance to bond with you. There is a void in my heart left by your death but I fill it with the knowing that you made such an impact on all our lives: our family, the community, your school, clubs, sports, etc. I am forever indebted to you and I know now that Bryanna has a guardian angel. -Love Auntie Pam

For three years I saw Johnny everyday run to the bus stop or run off the bus. He always seemed busy as if he had a place to be. That place/thing was playing: He hurried toward the bus stop to play with his friends.He hurried home barley having time to say hello to Roseanne so he could get busy playing at home or around our neighborhood streets.Not once did I see Johnny say an unkind word to anyone. I find relief knowing Johnny truly enjoyed his childhood. He truly knew how to have fun, how to be a "boy".This is the memory I hold and no other.

Johnny and my son Tim met this year as classmates in Mrs. Couch's class at Manatee Bay Elementary. They instantly hit it off and became best friends. They share many common interests - laughing, video games, Jack Septic Eye on YouTube, and being lovers of life. Johnny's positivity and smile has graced everyone fortunate enough to know him and the celebration of his life going on right now is a testament to that. Tim Jr. and I miss him dearly. Roseanne and Dave, my deepest condolences.

Johnny loved life - and we loved watching him embrace it...from paddle boarding fearlessly on Biscayne Bay to taking just a little taste of a new and unfamiliar food.We are grateful that we had him in our lives; sad that it was for such a brief time. For a couple of days I have been trying to figure out how I could possibly put the essence of Johnny MacDougall into words. He came into my life, unexpectedly, a few years ago and I am so blessed that I had that time , even though it was way too short. He brought so much laughter to my world, and he taught me how much love you can have for a child, even though he is not your own.He was always smiling and laughing and having fun. He was so polite to everyone he met, and every one of my family and friends always said what great kids Dave had.He would always kiss and hug me hello and goodbye and want to open the car door for me. He had a wonderful Mom and Dad that helped to make him this wonderful little boy that he was. Johnny was a lover of games. He loved to go to Baseball and hockey games, play softball, Minecraft, video games, Mini- golf, Frisbee, Mexican train and play the giant chess game against his Dad on the cruise ship. He loved to do cannon balls, have chicken fights and play Marco Polo in the pool. If there was not a game to play, he would make one up to play with his brother Tommy. He had such a great imagination.But the game that he knew how to play best, was the game of life. Johnny was so adventurous! He loved paddle boarding and riding on the back of the jet ski, snorkeling, climbing waterfalls and jumping off rope swings. He loved Roller coasters and water slides! If he was tall enough to ride on a ride, he would be on it. He loved music and traveling and seeing new places. He would try almost any new food you put in front of him. He had such a zest for life and even though he was only here for a short time, I believe he did more in 9 years than many people do in a life time.I'm saddened especially by the fact that I won't get to see Johnny grow up and fall in love and have his own kids, because he would have been a spectacular Dad, just like Dave and just like Big Mac.

When the enemy death strikes your grief can be great. It's never the right time to say goodbye to a loved one. Death too to many seems to be a part of life. It's during times such as these that we can find comfort in the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9, 10 ~ "Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth". Only God's (Psalms 83:18) Kingdom can bring peace, happiness, perfect health, and everlasting life.

I heard wonderful things about John and how respectful he is to one another. So sad I haven't had the chance to see him. John will surely be miss by family and love ones. Johnny was a very nice, sweet, funny,smart and good friend. I will miss him and i have a lot of good memories. I will always remember he loves the color pink and was really good at playing battleship. He would always cheer me up and make me laugh with a funny voice when I was sad.

Johnny was one of the first little boys we met here upon moving to the States from Toronto. My 6 year old Son sat alone and shy at the pool in Savanna. I felt out of place also. Then Johnny and Tommy came over, asked if they could play with him and his superhero toys. My Son was so happy and they splashed the afternoon away. Watching them play, I felt like everything was going to be ok. I wanted the family to know how much he touched my heart.

John was always a good friend to me and everyone in Mrs. Couch's class. I miss him. I know he is in a better place and safe.

Johnny was always very polite and loved every time he came to see the boats at the marina. He really loved the water and Captain Mike and Joe say "Johnny was a favorite fan of the Spirit of Lauderdale". "We will all miss him greatly."
