June Watkins

Born in St. Ann, Jamaica W.I. on February 22nd 1947. June is the daughter of Ernest and Daphney McKenzie. As a young girl she was educated in Eccleston Elementary school. In her early teenage years she moved to Kingston, Jamaica where she began her education in Cosmetology. She then worked in Halfway Tree Kingston for a few years and later migrated to Freeport, Bahamas where she began her career. She spent five years in the Bahamas constantly working then she came to the United States and completed her training in Cosmetology at Lindsey Hopkins School in Downtown Miami. She also attended Miami Dade Community College and modeled on the side. After completing her education, June became a professional hair designer and opened her own business in 1982. June's Beauty Shop is located at 7826 NE 2nd Ave. She owned, operated and grew her business year after year until her death.

June was very bold, very strong, and aggressive, you could not beat her down. As a child of God she would hit you right back with God's Word. June was very generous and caring. She would take the food from her mouth and feed the homeless, sick and less fortunate people in the neighborhood. She would store clothes in the back of her shop and give them to the poor and the needy that passed by on the street. She was very well known in the neighborhood as someone that would always help you if you are in need. June suddenly became ill in March of this year. She was diagnosed with brain cancer. She lost the battle on July 6th; the Lord took her home to be at Peace...Perfect Peace.

June left behind four children: Debbie, Chris, Steve and Omar; Several grandchildren: Lee, Laquavia, Bobisha, Tyee, Shantae, Karina, Giovanni, Omar Jr., and (granddaughter in Georgia); Five sisters: Carmen, Deloris, Thelma, Sybil and Gloria; Three brothers: David, Lloyd and Leo; and a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Enid McKenzie and many other family members and friends. She will be dearly missed but now she's in the presence of the Lord.
