AKA: Mom, Nanny, Nana 2, Aunt Kate, Mrs. Flood and Ma Flood
Our Wonderful Mother Kathy at 85 Yrs. “Young” (always Young at Heart), received her wings and left us on July 4, 2022. She has left us in her physical form but her Love and her Compassionate Spirit will remain with us forever.
Kathy was born in “The Bronx”, NY on January 6, 1937 (Which is also known as Little Christmas) and we (her 3 daughters) feel she was truly a “Gift” not only to us, but to the world in general. She was born to Patrick (PJ) and Nora Conway and into a Large Irish family. Family meant everything to her and she loved her family with all her heart!
She grew up in the Bronx and then married a handsome Sailor (Joe Flood) that she met at the USO while playing ping pong. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Miami, Florida where she gave birth to 3 daughters in 3 years! A young mother of 3 babies, in a new State with no family or friends nearby to help was at times very difficult. But Kathy was a very strong woman, who had a strong faith in God and she was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.
The family moved to Broward County in the early 70’s and she worked as a Para-legal for most of her life. This was a perfect fit for her, because she was a true “People Person” and she loved to help everyone in whatever way she could. She was loyal, dedicated, was fair to everyone and had very strong work ethics.
Throughout her life she was a very up-beat person who didn’t know a stranger. She would find people in need and “Take them under her wing”, as she would say to help them through any hard time they were having. She was a birth mother to 3, but she was a proxy mother to many, many more. Our Mom was always there for those who didn’t have a Mother, or just needed a friend or good advice, etc. She always knew the right thing to say and do, and give comfort when needed. She was not judgmental, she knew everyone had their own personal trials in life. These were such amazing traits and gifts she had, even though she had lost her own mother when she was just 15 years old.
Kathy loved to make people laugh and was always the life of any party or get-together. To know her was to “Love Her!”
“Live, Love and Laugh” was how she lived her life. However, “What would Jesus Do?” is the Golden Rule she lived by. She didn’t just talk the talk, she truly walked the walk. Those of you who were blessed to know her well, can attest to this.
Kathy is survived by her 3 Loving Daughters: Dawn Villacci, Patty (Kraig) Malstrom and Kathy (Peter) Flood-Bedrossian, her 3 Grandchildren: Cristine (Nick) Schneider, Matthew (Laura) Conway and Joseph (Briana) Villacci, 5 Great-Grandchildren: Benjamin, Jonathan, Anabelle, Brendan and Ryan, Her Brother: Patrick (Fidelma) Conway and many Nieces and Nephews.
Kathy is now at Peace with her parents PJ and Nora, and her 5 sisters: Annette, Veronica, Teresa, Noreen and Sheila, and we are pretty certain they are all now dancing an Irish Jig together in Heaven.
If you were Blessed to know our Mom, and have a fond or funny memory or story to tell about her, please write it here. Reading them will help us heal as we grieve our great loss.
In lieu of Flowers, you can send a donation to The American Heart Association or you can carry on the Light and Legacy of Kathy Conway by following her lead in showing random acts of kindness to someone in need (and think of her when you do it).
