Lynn Marie (Barnick) Matyisin, 78, of West Park, Florida, died unexpectedly on November 26th, 2021. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was the only child of Arlene Ethel Allen and Stephen Barnick.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her young grandson Kenneth A. Garber, who along with her mother, Arlene greeted her as she walked through Heaven’s Gate.
Her surviving family is her only child Lisa L. (Flowers) Garber, also from Hollywood, resides in Monteverde, FL; Granddaughter Stephanie M. Garber of Melbourne, FL; Grandsons Steven K. Garber and Scott K Wilburn, both of Montverde, FL, and her newborn Great-Grandson, Nova Michael McDonald who was born on November 24th, 2021.
Lynn was raised in Bay Shore Long Island, NY, and attended high school at Bay Shore High School, in 1957 and graduated from Miami Edison, Miami, Florida, in 1961.
Lynn was a career public servant, who dedicated much of her working life to serving the citizens of South Florida. She worked for Metro Dade Police, with over 30 years of continued dedicated service, Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM), in 1994. She then continued to serve the public of Miami Dade, North Bay Village, and finally retired from the City of Hollywood Police Department, in July of 2012. She enjoyed helping people and worked part-time at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, in Hollywood.
Lynn was a member of Fulford United Methodist Church in North Miami Beach and enjoyed being a part of the choir and women’s circle groups. She loved God and was strong in her worship with Him. She enjoyed her Sunday social brunches with her many friends on a regular basis.
Lynn was a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose in North Miami, Hollywood & Miramar Chapter 1698 for over 50 years, who was recently honored and awarded the College of Regents (Red Stole).
Lynn will be dearly missed by her family and many friends, whom she made throughout her years here in South Florida. The family wishes to eternally thank the dedicated nurses and doctors from Hollywood Regional Memorial, who worked tirelessly to provide health services and comfort during her final days. We are grateful for your efforts, compassion, and kindness during this season of our life!
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 2 pm at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL. Reception to follow at Order of the Moose, located at 6019 SW 30th street, Miramar, FL 330243
