She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She became a U.S. citizen to expand greater opportunities for her family.
Rose was very creative and had a variety of artistic skills. She attended a vocational institute in Jamaica and later on, she became a remarkable seamstress. Rose developed her own distinctive style in creating apparels patterns. As the years went by she mastered her craft and was offered a position as a pattern creator with Lord & Taylor, one of the largest retail designer in New York City. She was a gifted seamstress with such a rear talent and could use any fabric to sew anything from formal wear to drapes, think of her as the fairy Godmother without a magic wand. In addition to being a seamstress, pastry chef should be added to her resume, she made some of the best puddings from scratch that would put most bakers to shame.
She was a devoted christian and attended the Apostolic Church of America for over a decade. Sister Barker was always serious when it came to her attendance in church and anticipated every Sunday. As a loyal servant of Christ she was very giving and would offer to help anyone in need even if it was not feasible.
Rose led by example, along with her many other attributes she was admired for her absolute honesty, that some would say she's “honest to a fault”. She secured values that will carry on for generations. Mother Rose was the Rock of her family and has always made it known that she wanted unity and to be surrounded by the ones she loved. She was a strong, determined and independent woman who believed that with prayer and faith all things are possible.
Marrie Rose Barker is now at peace and can finally rest gently in God's arms. She will forever live on in our hearts and memories.
