

He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and soul mate, wife of 50 years, Ronda Parks Quarles; son, Nathan (Valerie) Quarles, III, of Dawsonville, GA; son, Matthew (Julie) Quarles, of Greenacres, FL; daughter Amanda (Paul) Marcum, of Orwell, Ohio; grandchildren Kaley Quarles, Mason (Dakota) Quarles, Ashley Marcum, Paul Marcum, Jr., Layla Marcum, and another grandson on the way in May (Matthew’s son); great-grandchildren Cameron Quarles and twins Willow and Wyatt, soon to be born; and his sister Bertie Smith, of Augusta,Georgia; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends he considered family.
Nathan is preceded in death by his father, Nathan Young Quarles, Sr.; mother, Alice Harner Quarles; sisters, Lucille Mason, Dorothy Woods, Julia Davis; and brother Frank Leadley.
He was the light behind countless smiles and laughs, the greatest husband and father any family could hope for, a convicted and God fearing Christian who loved Jesus with all his heart, making certain his children and grandchildren knew Jesus early on. He was a proud American who loved and served his country.
A memorial service and internment of remains will be held on Friday, January 24, 2019 at 11:45 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Lake Worth, FL. A reception will follow at the Quarles residence at 6840 NW 81st Court, Tamarac, FL 33321__ for light refreshments and fellowship.
Nathan was born in Miami, Florida on April 5, 1946. He attended schools in North Miami, graduating in 1964 from North Miami Senior High where he played football for four years as #64 offensive guard. His school years were filled with trips to Conch Key with his dad, fishing out of every bit of salt water that existed in Dade County with friends like Grey Lyons, hunting, and spending time with Ronda after he could drive at age 16. The stories he told of South Florida, painted a picture of a place long gone.
While going to pilot’s training at Dade Junior College as a young adult, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he was stationed in St. Petersburg, Florida for 4 yrs. Being honorably discharged, Nathan began his lengthy career in the elevator industry. He worked for United Technologies, Otis, The City of Miami Beach and Schindler, completing work in all facets of the trade including construction, maintenance, sales, managing and inspecting elevators. He began his own company in 1991, Elevator Consulting & Maintenance Review, Inc. E.C.M.R., Inc. functioned until 2012 under his direction and was a formidable elevator inspection and consulting company in the South Florida for 20+ years.
