

Ronald "Ron" James Van Eyk, of Plantation, Florida passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 21, 2015, following a five year courageous battle against cancer. He was 64 years of age.
He was born in Miami, Florida on November 28, 1950, the son of Ernest James and Ella Mae (Leeds) Van Eyk. Raised and educated in Miami and was a member of the Carpenters' Union.
Before his retirement due to Illness in 2010, Ron was the Public Works Director in Miami Lakes, Florida. He previously worked for 23 years as Assistant Public Works Director for the City of Coral Gables.
Ron enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, boating and fishing. He was a musician, singer, song writer, a Marshall Artist and Instructor. He received his black belts in Kung Fu, Wing Chun and Hawaiian Kempo and was extensively versed and trained in various other martial arts.
In addition to his mother, Ella Mae Van Eyk, Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Jeanne M. (Spoden) Van Eyk, two devoted children, Jesse (Tara) Van Eyk and Monica (Aaron) Marcum, adored grandson, Shane Steven Marcum, step-grandchildren, Daniel and Nicole Marcum, as well as, his sister Sandra Morris and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the son-in-law of James and Virginia Spoden. Preceeded in death by his father, Ernest James Van Eyk.
The Van Eyk family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 28th from Twelve Noon ~ 2:00 P.M. at Fred Hunters Memorial Home, 2401 South University Drive in Davie. A Celebration of Ron's Life will begin at 2:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Guests are invited to a gathering immediately following the service at the Van Eyk residence. Details will be provided during the service. Interment will be private.
